Horse/dog/house sitting going rate?
Horse and Hound Forum

Hello all, I have been asked to house sit for some family friends in July and I’m wondering what to charge them per day? They have 5 dogs and 5 horses on site, all horses live out so would be normal summer duties (feed, hay, groom, rug changes, poo picking etc) and obviously the dog care/exercise too. I’m used to dog sitting which I charge a flat daily rate for but haven’t looked after horses for a while and not sure what the going rate is! Uk based. Many thanks in advance ..read more

So i have found a gorgeous property with a few acres and stables, no arena but we have transport to box out The location is stunning, Rural, only issue is it directly opposite a country pub. We know that it's a very upmarket clientele as we actually know the pub quite well, its mainly a restaurant, but they do host events now and again in the outside marquee that is directly opposite our house. Birthday parties and things like that. I think the noise may only be a few times a month through... Read more ..read more

Vetting Worry - Agent not allowing me to use her vet.

Hi everyone. I’m in the very tedious process of buying my dream horse and it seems like one hiccup after another. To be honest the agent isn’t being the friendliest which isn’t helping! I found a lovely horse an hour and a half from me so too far for my vet to go. I booked a vet that my own vet recommend that is closer to her. When I told the seller which vet I was using she said I couldn’t use that particular vet, as it was the practice she is registered with and it was a conflict of... Read more ..read more

My mare (Cob/Welsh) has recently started coughing in the past week or so. It is a dry cough, she has no nasal discharge and she’s never had a cough before in her life. Is this due to pollen/allergies? She lives out all year round and isn’t on hay. Anyone else currently having this issue ..read more

Collapsing behind? Locking stifles

I have a nearly 4 year old that I brought from the brink of existence two years ago. She was very very poor and her stifles were noticeably weak then but didn’t suffer any locking until her second year. It’s intermittent and doesn’t seem to bother her. She lives out 24/7 and has done all her life. She’s recently been broken and has been away for 8 weeks where they have had no issues with it. She seems totally well in herself and not lame however when I ride her downhill she sort of drops her... Read more ..read more
