Is this a new hat thing or not?!

Can't believe I was just so stupid, also cant really believe the dog bothered with this but I just came across to the house loaded up with my tack and a pile of other bits and pieces including my riding hat which i thought as we are away this weekend I'd give a bit of a scrub to freshen up and leave to dry. Dumped it all on the floor to unlock the door, let the dogs out and next second Bertie is bouncing round the garden with my bl**dy hat in his mouth. Normally I would tell him to drop... Nosebleeds in horses
Horse and Hound Forum
by SEL

Asking for a friend not on social media She's had the horse a couple of years and he will randomly start bleeding from either nostril - enough to be an obvious nosebleed (plus he's grey so you can definitely see it) Vet checked his guttural pouches last year and nothing. They seemed to stop for a while but are back now. No link to exercise - he doesn't do much - or anything else we can think of. She's had her bodyworker out who has suggested a CT scan. Given the horse is in his teems and... Read more ..read more

Longer term fly protection (melanoma) - Spotinor or similar?
Horse and Hound Forum
by HollyWoozle

My mare has some melanomas under her tail, which don't bother her, and one essentially on her bum cheek to the side of her tail. This one gets the skin scraped off the top when she has her summer coat, I believe from when she gets up from a roll or a snooze. It never seems sore and has never been infected but I feel it is essential to keep the flies off of it (she is 22, retired and a nervy sort so I am not interested in having any sort of invasive treatment for melanomas). I am there... Read more ..read more

How do I word it... is it justified... is it just a rant?

So I have a friend/ livery left on my yard and I am getting increasingly annoyed. I know it might just be me feeling ranty (just opened a bottle of wine), so not sure I am in the right but I am at my wits end? Need advice from rational non- biased people (you lot will be un-biased, may or may not be rational!!! ) These are my complaints in no particular order though the last one happened today. Showing up really late to do the horse often after 9pm or 10pm. Quite often I will have... Read more ..read more

So an ideal pup with my perfect breeding wants is available. I said no, being a grown up, but he’s just messaged me again to say she is still available. She will be 8 weeks old mid July. That’s easy. But come 1st September I hope and intend to be out with the dogs all day, 4 days a week. How would I manage? OH, who is a saint, says I’m mad, he’s not helping and he will be busy anyway. How could I make it work? People who I have already bored with this subject just look away ..read more

How to tell the difference between "stiffness" or "unbalanced" and an actual lameness?

Is there any obvious thing you can do or look at to differentiate between a horse showing a stiffness or being unbalanced, vs a lameness presentation. Other than getting out the vet obviously? How do you rule out stiffness/unbalanced ..read more

EMS pony - needs more calories without the sugar. Feed recommendations?

Currently, she’s in an almost entirely bare paddock, on haylage and straw mixed. It’s summer, so her little sharer comes and we work her. She’s having a ball, so happy and so full of life. But…she’s losing weight. We had the same issue last summer and it was a real battle to keep enough weight on while not tipping her over the edge insulin-wise. Can anyone recommend a feed that could help? Low sugar/starch, no alfalfa, high energy ..read more
