It’s difficult for me to imagine starting my day without at least one big mug of the good stuff. In fact, I purposefully restrict the specifics of my morning routine to the most basic of tasks because I know that there’s not a snowball’s chance that I can manage anything remotely more complicated than brushing my teeth without it, and it may well be stating the obvious but I know that I am not alone. Thankfully though I’m on my third cup of the day as I write this so luckily for you (or well, possibly unluckily) there’s little likelihood of my head hitting the keyboard in a caffeine-deprived s ..read more

If anyone were to draw up a list of gastronomic indicators of British culture, a nice cup of tea would most assuredly be up there amongst the Sunday roast dinners, seaside fish and chips and pretty much any sandwich that you might care to mention. The UK Tea & Infusions Association have a handy counter on their website for the number of cups of tea drank in the United Kingdom in a single day, and it’s just topped 47.6 million. And as I write this, it’s only 12:23pm GMT. There can be no denying then, that for many itchy-kettle fingered Brits, the notion of not brewing up on a semi-regular b ..read more

As a trend, the dark chocolate market has been going from strength to strength in recent years with Confectionarynews.com predicting growth that’s likely to continue throughout the rest of 2021 at least. That being said, it is of course by no means a recent invention. According to History.com, it’s first thought to have been enjoyed in liquid form at religious ceremonies and rituals by the Olmec elite (a civilization based in modern day Southern Mexico) around 4000 years ago, and it was later adopted by the Mayan and Aztec cultures for celebrations or as a dinnertime accompaniment, with the be ..read more

The Ketogenic diet has taken the health and lifestyle world by storm in recent years, being touted as the go-to food regimen of choice by many social media moguls and Hollywood celebrities the world over, with Halle Berry, Gwyneth Paltrow and at least two of the Kardashians reportedly being staunch advocates, just to name a few. And with easing Coronavirus restrictions for most, many are looking at ways that they can try to shift that extra lockdown mileage, indicating that the Keto diet’s popularity isn’t likely to wane any time soon.
But what exactly is the Keto diet and what could it mean f ..read more

We all love chocolate, a rich indulgence that brings with it a rush of endorphins. But there is a dark secret to cheap chocolate - that millions of cacao farmers live on just half of the UN's absolute poverty threshold (currently £1.43 / day). That's just 72p a day to live on for farmers supporting an industry worth £33,000,000,000 globally.
A quick Google will reveal bars of well known chocolate brands for less than 1p per gram of chocolate. In many supermarkets you can get their own label chocolate bars for as little as 0.3p / gram - ultimately it is cocoa the famers who are th ..read more

Cocoa for Schools began with a single act of kindness by Kim's Chocolate (the makers of Cachet) founder, Fons Maex, after a visit to Tanzania in 2010.
When meeting with the cocoa farmers he was shocked by the incredible difficulties they had to face, despite the Tanzanian climate being perfect for cultivation, the farmers and their community suffered extreme poverty due to lack of resources and education.
Growing up in poverty himself, Maex knew that the only way out of it was knowledge and understanding, therefore the initial steps that needed to be taken were to build a strong educational ..read more
