Wioutdoorguy, Don’t know if you do podcasts but this is a 2 part one that talks a lot about navigation in earlier times. I thought it was really good.

The usual recommendation is to take the artifact to a museum or university for identification, but contact them first to ensure they are able and willing. Even a museum that has artifacts on display will not necessarily have staff on hand competent to evaluate your point and universities can be busy places or, this time of year, may not have archeological/paleontological staff available. This was published a month ago but escaped my attention until today: https://archaeonewsnet.com/2023/05/evid ... japan.html. That's the condensed version. The full text can be found here: https://www.cell.com/cell-reports/fullt ... all%3Dtrue. Basically, the paper offers mitochondrial DNA evidence for at least two migrations to the Americas; an early one between 25,000 and 19,500 years ago and a second one between 19,000 and 11,500 years ago. The study was published in the journal Cell Reports, 9 May 23.
