I just picked upa pair of AR48s speakers in good shape other than needing new surrounds. When I opened them up they were stuffed to the max with Polyfil (or something very similar).
I was wondering if this was added by someone later or if they stuffed them like that at the factory. The tube behind the midrange was even stuffed with it.
If not factory what, if any, damping material did Acoustic Research use in them?
Thanks ..read more

Hey all, I'm working on restoring another crusty AU-717 and would love some advice on a couple replacement parts on the amp board. There was a heavy amount of acidic glue used on this board that dripped down taking out some resistors and a capacitor that are not familiar to me.
Resistors: I have found the value for the ones below on the schematic, I'm wondering what wattage I should use. Any help here would be greatly appreciated.
R07 - 820 ohm ?w
R11 - 1.2k ohm ?w
R18 - 100 ohm ?w...

I have a Sansui 9090 that has output at Speaker B and C, but no A....
Do I have anyone that has cured this defect? Besides replacing the expensive Selection Switch? I can jump the audio from B to A, so it must be the switch...just looking for suggestions from this Awesome Forum ..read more

I recently restored a Marantz 4025 receiver.
The FM alignment instructions instruct to adjust L201 upper/lower for the S-curve, 0v crossover, and minimum distortion which makes sense to me. This feeds into an AN7000 chip, which is a 29 pin chip that contains AM/FM/Stereo on it. L201 feeds into pins 16 and 18 which is the quad detector, and 17 which is a voltage regulator (which makes no sense to me why).
What I'm confused about is the configuration of L201, which is highlighted in the...

HI all. I've tried searching the threads but cannot find an answer to my specific issue:
I've just had my Yamaha CA2010 back after being fully restored and the guy who restored it has told me not to use my Triangle Borea BR09 speakers due to the impedance curve being too low. He has told me that any breach of the 4ohm line will cause problems. I paid £1200 for these speakers and now I cannot use them! Could anyone suggest whether I should look for vintage speakers or try to...

Let me start by saying that I am no expert at anything in this world. My sons and I have gotten into vintage stereo systems and the repair thereof for our own personal enjoyment. I've purchased the components for a great quadraphonic system for one of my sons and we've been fighting through getting everything working. The phono, FM and Am didn't work at all, we found a trace on the power supply board was cut, fixed that. The DC offset is great, I was able to get that in spec. The bias on the...

So it's been a month now and with a lot of listening to familiar music both LP,CD and streaming. First thing is even if it's a marginal recording the LRS+ will show it for what it is. Paul Simons Graceland is a good example. Even with all the speakers I've heard it through thought what a shame. The songs are mostly great music just not great sound engineering. The Maggies emphasized it. There are a couple songs on the CD that don't fall into that and they really stood out from the rest. Marc...
