HMV 2357 Radiogram

Hi Just started looking at a HMV 2357 Radiogram with a Chassis 77s. I'd be grateful of some pointers based on my first brief assessment before I spend too much time and money on it. The deck is getting power but the turntable turns very slowly, The mechanics are pretty gummed up with old grease so hopefully this is just a case of cleaning and lubrication. The radio appears to be dead so it would be good for some pointers on where to look first if anyone knows of common faults. I know it will need a new bulb, the current one is labelled as "MAZDA ENG 12V 22W" (or maybe 2.2W). The radio gla ..read more

Handy linear torioidal PSU on PCB

This is a handy little power supply by Canford. The spec is on https://www.canford.co.uk/ProductRes...sht/02-096.pdf It's proper old-school - toroidal transformer and LM regulators. It has independent positive and negative regulated outputs and has pluggable links to select + and - 12, 15 or 24v, giving typically 1A at 15v. Handily it also has a position to select a multi-turn pot to select any voltage up to just over 24v. This is very useful and I've used one to make a low-current bench PSU using external multi-turn pots and a couple of cheap digital panel meters. I bought two a while back ..read more

Pye Model MM restoration

Restoring this lovely 1931 Pye “Sunrise” set was quite a challenge. It had clearly been stored somewhere quite damp as a lot of the veneer was peeling and there was a lot of corrosion internally. The first thing was the power pack. Fortunately the transformer was still in working order, but the electrolytics were very leaky and I didn’t dare even try the metal rectifier. I melted the capacitors out of the block and replaced them all with modern ones, and fitted a couple of silicon diodes with limiting resistors in place of the rectifier. The original moving coil speaker was corroded away to ..read more

Alba and GEC spare parts hunt!
Vintage Radio Forum

If anyone has a mains panel switch for Alba receivers, specifically the 3812 (other sets may have identical switches), then I'd be happy to pay the going rate. I'm also after a mains transformer for a GEC 5445 set. Whilst I have a spare all- original parts set, that is working and I'm reluctant to dismantle unless I just can't get a transformer. Alternatively, does anyone know of someone who rewinds old transformers? Thanks. J ..read more
