Was comparing the new Uniden 160 to my Icom R30 on air band. The R30 won on distant contacts. Next, I compared it to the Uniden 325P2 on air band. Pretty much the same. My RS Pro 26 was at my desk and decided to test against the new 160. The Pro 26 did just as good as the 160 on air band. Just because you have an older scanner doesn’t mean it’s junk. Does just as good as new without the bells and whistles on analog ..read more

I just received my SDS200 today. This is my first scanner ever so I'm not really sure what I need to start enjoying this hobby. Should I buy a longer antenna for my roof? I pick up some traffic but not my local police. I put in some frequency numbers that I found online but that didn't work. All in all, it been fun just listening to the city workers talk about fixing a water leak and some railroad people talking about some rail cars, I guess. I'm thinking I don't have my...

BLUF: When building a low duty cycle repeater, are the challenges of working with older Motorola radios (software/learning curve) offset by significantly better performance? (compared to low budget Chinese stuff)
Use case: Portable GMRS repeater with ~30W out used to facilitate family connectivity during camping trips. This would be a low duty cycle application with possible battery operation and solar back up.
Discussion: Motorola radios are regarded as premium, commercial quality...

Is anyone aware of a lawsuit being filed against a public safety agency using encryption, alleging that encryption led to a scanner owner's lack of awareness of a dangerous situation -- high-speed chase, active shooter, bomb threat, manhunt, natural gas leak, approaching tornado, etc. -- that caused that person's injury, death or destruction of their property?

The ethernet connection is hit and miss. I've tried different cables and different switches. It does not connect to my network nor does the connection lights come on. It was working for 9 months. Suddenly it has a mind of its own on making a connection.
Any troubleshooting tips?

Hello all, back in the day I used to live in a different town where I bought a radio shack pro 2029 and was able to listen to the police dispatch frequency, my gfs dad at the time was a police officer so we would have the scanner on and listen in, now many years later, I live in a different town but still enjoy listening to police dispatch, I tried to look up the frequency for my local town but it says they operate on the CLMRN (Connecticut land mobile radio network). I've never heard of...
