National Poetry Month: 10 Queer Poets You Should Know
GO Magazine

Poetry helps us to feel, it cracks us open. In school, I thought I didn’t understand poetry but when I came out and started reading queer poetry, I fell in love with zines and chapbooks.  I found stories that spoke directly to the experience of being young and queer and trans and I was smitten. My friends brought me to punk house basement shows where slam poets would spit verses from pallet board stages. I collected zines, bought books, and kept reading, reading, reading. Poetry shows us something about ourselves, and others, the world around us, and our collective queerness. In honor of ..read more

The 22-year-old opened up about her experience channeling her sexuality into music- something she would have never done a few years ago. “I was never planning on talking about my sexuality ever, in a million years. It’s really frustrating to me that it came up,” she says. Come up it did. Her red ..read more

Did you stay up all night listening to Taylor Swift’s highly anticipated 11th album The Tortured Poets Department? I know I did!  I’m the kind of Swiftie who’s always looking for queer reads of Taylor’s music and without a doubt, there was a lot of subtext in TTPD…. Poetry? Yes, please. Torture? Relatable. Although Taylor has shot down gay rumors, her songs take on a life of their own and the gays can’t help but take on our own readings. Swift’s songwriting is stunning and there are so many layers to unpack– but here are my first takes on the queerest moments on her new album: Guilty As S ..read more

“What do you do when you’re born to be Center Stage and all you want to do is hide in the wings?” Lady Glamb wrestles with this question in her memoir Glamb Dimensional, which begins with a traumatic event in infancy, progresses through ordeals of child performing and abuse, and culminates in a glorious adulthood that both shakes off and embraces the past. Glamb takes on trauma and miracle Dorothy Gale-style, taking her sepia-toned existence to one of perpetual vibrant hues.
