Just bought a used XE-1 and found the reading of HDDVD intermittent. Got error message like "Not DVD" or keep loading for minutes half of the time. No problem reading DVD and CD so far. Search suggest to replace the lens using the part for XBOX 360 (DT0811). Can't find any detail instruction so any help or pointer to threads for the fix will be appreciated.
Found a site with procedures to pry the small lens part off the board and replace it. Looks simple but no comment after so not sure if...

My Toshiba hd-dvd A2 player which has not been used for a few years is having problems reading dvd’s and HD-dvd’s. I get a message saying ‘The disc is not dvd format. cannot play the disc.’ .
I tried a few regular DVDs as well as an HD-DVD disc but same error. It used to work a few years ago. I just haven't used it in a number of years and has been sitting around.
Can I use a Blu ray disc cleaner disc in it? I believe the Maxell one claims that it supports Blu-rays , HD-DVDs and...

I do not yet own either HD-DVD or Blu-Ray and I thought I would see if there were undecided buyers perusing these threads. I recently pondered the possibility of a "blind buy" of the Transformers HD-DVD along with a second or third generation Toshiba player and decided to take the plunge. I have an analog 1080i HD TV (Mits WS-65819) and am waiting until Q2 2008 to upgrade the display. In the mean time, my Yamaha RX-V661 receiver still packs a punch and needs something to rattle the walls...

I just got a rarely seen RCA HDV5000 off of ebay marked as "non-working/as-is" since it was locking up on the seller when he tested it with 2 HD DVD discs (Backdraft and V for Vendetta). After asking a few questions like which movies was he testing it with thinking it might have been disc rot and if the exhaust fan working or not I decided to pick it up for just under $80.
