Help/Suggestion Required for designing a 3 Node vSphere HA Cluster

Hi Experts, We are planning to set up a 3 Node vSphere HA Cluster. We have 3x Servers ( AMD Epyc 7543 / 192GB / 2x25gbps NIC ), 2 x managed switches and a dual controller SAN Storage( will be connected to the cluster using iSCSi over 25Gbps NIC) and a VMware Essentials Plus license. Now we want to set up a fully redundant cluster so that failure of one server/one switch/one storage controller can be tolerated. We have the relevant documentation for the SAN. But we are confused on how to do the HA setup for the VSphere cluster. can you all guide us in terms of the following 1. Please share the ..read more

Storage vmotion question on a vSAN

Hello all, I have a production cluster with 16 hosts that is set up for storage policy of RAID 5/FTT 1. I need to migrate some servers off this so that I can relieve it of some storage. Set up another smaller cluster of just 2 hosts (can push it to 3 if needed) but I cannot meet the 4 host requirement on this cluster without removing 2 hosts from the production cluster and be on edge for storage for the production servers. Is it possible to just vmotion it to the smaller cluster and ignore the warnings? Will this cause any issues once the server is vmotioned over? Or can I change the storage ..read more

Moving VMs from esxi 6.5 to 8.0.2

We have 3 older hosts on esxi 6.5 that are not capable of being upgraded any further and 2 new hosts that we just bought and installed on 8.0.2. The old hosts are NOT in any vcenter or cluster together and I don't have any available licensing to put them on one, but the new ones are on vsphere 8.0.1. I was assured by Dell that I'd be able to add the old hosts to vsphere and vmotion them to the new hosts, but this is not the case as they are on a version that is too old to be brought into the new vsphere, making me unable to vmotion. I was basically told by Dell "too bad, pay us more money" if ..read more

VCSA 6.7 appliance reboot. Web server does not spin up.

Over the past evening I had to migrate over my domain controllers, and I was going through each VM and other devices to repoint my DNS over. When I got to my VCSA appliance I set things up, and gave it a reboot for good measure. Yeah, that became a problem. Now when the appliance starts up it only gets so far into presenting a photon login command line screen. I kept on retrying my known password for the appliance but to no success. The main web portal will not load, however I can reach the VMWare Appliance Management web portal (port 5480). But again any password combination I use fails. I we ..read more

ESXi 8 host cannot detect USB devices

Hi, I've got an ESXi 8.0.1 production host (Dell PowerEdge R450) that I'm trying to attach a USB device to.  I've tried a USB external HDD as well as a USB licensing dongle.  These devices have been plugged into a Windows laptop and are confirmed working. I've restarted the USB Arbitrator service and the host.d service, plugged the device in with the usb arbitrator service stopped, but lsusb only lists the onboard USB controllers either way.  These commands also come up empty: esxcli hardware usb passthrough device list cat /var/log/vmkernel.log | grep -i usb  cat /var/log ..read more
