Hi! I'm told by my rep that there is no way to renew my licence from : Trend Micro Worry Free Business Advanced (On premise) to Worry-Free Business Security Services Standard. Not the client part, the actual licence. Find that hard to believe. Any thoughts on that ..read more

ESET Endpoint is detecting ESET LiveGuard as an unwanted program

Not sure if this is due to the location of the file or if I am missing something. ESET has decided that its own LiveGuard product is something potentially malicious. Is this just ESET doing ESET things or is there something genuine I should look into deeper? I'm very unfamiliar with ESET and the Endpoint Product so decided to ask the brain trust here in the forums ..read more

Symantec Endpoint to Microsoft Defender Business

I've been exploring the idea of ditching SEPM for Defender Business. Over the next 6-8 months I am going to be migrating servers to 2022, new desktops with W11, and it's been a while since I did some due diligence with anti-virus. We are a pretty small shop (15 desktops and about 15 servers). I have not been happy with the Broadcom transfer,  and I am really dreading my choices for virtualization but that is for another thread. For now I wanted to explore my best options for AV in the coming years. Has anyone changed over from SEPM to Defender Business? For instance with SEPM it was gener ..read more

Best free antivirus (for home use mostly) 2024

This question usually makes its rounds every so often but I haven't seen it posted for a couple years. What are your thoughts on the best (free mostly) antivirus at the moment?  Avast has been okay for me but the pop-ups are getting annoying, along with some false alerts that have been coming up pretty often lately.  ..read more

SMB with around 75 devices.   100% Windows computers (Windows 10 pro) Untill 4-5 years ago we had  Vipre Antivirus Console installed and maintained on in-house server. Moved to their Cloud endpoint security 4 years ago and it is working fine. I see all the new names in the antivirus industry  EDR,MDR ..... Wondering if anyone of you as part of SMB are currently using any antivirus with EDR, if yes please provide your feedback. Not planning to move to MDR, not in our budget.  For now EDR only. Any other suggestions are welcome, Thanks for your time ..read more

Astonished at response from AVG tech support

We use the AVG business console for antivirus and Internet security and patching. It usually works very well. I am the only person in my organization that has a login. Sometime in December 2023, I had 2 servers have their profiles changed from the Server group to DEFAULT. This profile change caused the servers in question to be exposed to brute force attacks for several days before I discovered the problem because they no longer had the firewall configs applied to them. The same thing happened to my workstation I use for admin purposes. I contacted AVG about it. The response was that someone a ..read more

Use Avast Business Hub for automatic updates

I just thought I'd give a little plug here for a program that works exceedingly well . Avast Business Hub ("not a sponsor" as Eric O. from South Main Auto would say) is astounding web based software. Besides having the best antivirus protection for both websites and email, it allows for updates of system AND 3rd party software. It lets you decide when and what gets installed. In short, it keeps all software your machine up-to-date always. It doesn't replace SCCM as it cannot tailor software packages or do installs. But if it is already there, it'll keep EVERYHING up-to-date. It is a lifesaver ..read more

What does Endpoint protection mean to you and what do you use?

I'd like to get a discussion going about Endpoint detection and systems. There are a lot of them, and you can find them rated in multiple places. What differentiates an endpoint system from others? What if you have a SIEM system with an agent, is this now Extended Detection and Response, XDR? What happened to Anti-Virus, they all had an agent, are they dead or just renamed? What about Security Service Edge, this looks like Anti-Virus? So if you have a SIEM with XDR you still need something to protect the client at the file and folder level. If you have a good endpoint system, what d ..read more

Zenrat - WSUS false positive?

We use Vipre endpoint security. This morning, several workstations have Vipre warnings popping up about a high threat, outbound detection.   The category is "A Network Trojan was detected" and the message is "ET MALWARE ZenRAT Get Status Command"   They all are in reference to the same IP address, which is our local WSUS server. Nothing has been installed or changed on that server for months other then it downloading updates.      We did two full scans on the server with different scanners and came up clean, I see no weird processes, startup files, syswow64 files, etc ..read more

What's a reasonable delay for threat notifications from cloud EDR/EPP solutions?
Spiceworks » Antivirus

Say you have your cloud-managed EDR / EPP solution configured to send you an email notification when it detects an active threat. Leaving aside email relay speed, what would you consider a reasonable delay for the notification to be generated and sent out? Consider a shared cloud environment where the solution provider may be using the same resources for several customers and there may be some event queuing delays and what not ..read more
