Hello there! I hope you are doing well during unusual pandemics around the world. I have been working on the application process for LKYSPP, which is my first-choice school. I have taken TOEFL again and again in order to get a higher score. Looking at the application checklist, the Admissions Committee does not set minimum scores for admissibility, but they indicate successful applicants usually achieve or exceed the following scores: 100 on the TOEFL internet-based test.  If my score is below 100 and is roughly 80-90, does means that I can't be a competitive candidate for this program? Argument: Paleo diets, in which one eats how early hominids (human ancestors) did, are becoming increasingly popular. Proponents claim our bodies evolved to eat these types of food, especially bone broth, a soup made by cooking animal bones for several hours. They believe it has many health-promoting nutrients, such as cartilage, which can heal our joints, and chondroitin, which promotes nerve regeneration. Skeptics point out that ingested cartilage can’t replenish cartilage in your knees or elbows and ingested chondroitin doesn’t make our brains any healthier. Yet, there is strong anecdo ..read more

Prompt:  The following is a petition to the city council of Centerville: "Over the past three years, there has been a marked increase in cases of 'sidewalk rage,' similar to the irrational anger drivers experience on the road, but instead among sidewalk walkers. The result is an increase in assaults, property damage, and disruptions of normal pedestrian traffic. In order to address this growing problem, the council must ban cell phone use on sidewalks. Hi all, I just took the GRE today. My scores could be better but not terrible. Verbal - 161, Quant - 153. I want to enroll in an environmental sociology PhD program in fall 2022. My top choices are NC State, UF, Stony Brook, and Rutgers. I studied for 3 months and my math is still pretty low. I was wondering if it is worth retaking in September? Has anyone had any experience with an effective study method for raising scores? I went through the entire 5lb Manhattan Prep book and the Kaplan Practice Tests. Would a prep course be beneficial? I just don't know if the price and time studying to ret ..read more

Biology grad programs that don't require the GRE

I've put together a list of biology grad programs in the U.S. that tells you which ones do or do not require the GRE. At this point 73% of programs do NOT require the GRE, and another 10% didn't require it for fall 2021 admission due to COVID and haven't announced yet whether they'll require it for 2022. So the trend of grad programs dropping the GRE requirement has reached the point where you may not need to take the stupid GRE. I hope this list is useful, but keep the following in mind: 1) This is a list of BIOLOGY grad programs, in the U.S. I don't know what's going on in other fields or ot ..read more

The well-being of a society is enhanced when many of its people question authority.   The issue posed presumes a positive relationship between the society’s well-being and the challenges to authority by the people. Even the correlation between the two can seem a little unbalanced at times, my position weighs more in support of the statement. As democracy has it, the well-being of society more generally points at the development and well-being of its people, who, however have placed a party in the position of authority for the very same purpose. Economics run on the fundamentals of individ ..read more

How to find old ACT/SAT/GRE scores?!

Hey all, I'm filling out an application through LSAC and it's asking first whether I've taken the ACT/SAT (of course I have since I've been to undergrad) or the GRE/GMAT, etc. I took the GRE because my parents forced me to, I didn't study AT ALL for it. It's asking when I took these tests and what my scores are. I took the SAT & ACT like almost 10 years ago and I have no idea how to access this information. I took the GRE probably 4-5 years ago and also do not know how I would go about getting this info. Any help with this ..read more
