I know the obvious of running tails with the next run. But what else can be made with 189 proof and lower potato based alcohol? Can it be blended into another drink by TTB standards? We have 100% sweet potato base. No sugars, no grains, etc. I have looked and searched every where for this but I can not find anything on it. Thanks ..read more

One of my flavored vodkas ended up being colored due to the flavoring. I am not keen on colored spirit in the bottle and would like to clarify it. Is there a filter that would pull the color but not kill the flavor? I have some GFC haze filters and a few different carbon filters but don't want to waste a bunch of finished product trying a few different filters. Any recommendations ..read more

I have a 20 plate still using "pro caps"
charges still with 90L of low wines at 30% made from raw wheat and enzymes, stripped through a copper pot still.
75L of the low wines had a really nice clean ferment in 2 days. SG around 1065, finished dry. My hydrometer aint that good to argue a few points..
25L of the low wines had a bit of a less clean life, they were from a 300L batch that didnt fully convert and my SG was 1060, it finished at 1030.
The plate still works great, i heat up on 10kg and then switch to 5kw, open dephleg up full for 45 mins to stabilise. All plates loaded, none flooded i ..read more

this is just my sacrificial run but it loaded 4 of the top plates for about 30 mins then gradually got to about 12 loaded.
Charge was 10L NGS and 70L water
Running on 5.5KW
Any ideas? maybe charge of 10L of NGS and 70L water wasn't enough...

What set up are you using for your carbon filtering? I'm trying to improve my carbon filtering protocol for my white rum and vodka. So far I've used two different methods:
1. a carbon fiber filter from TCW - it works, but doesn't remove as much flavor as I'd like. I think it works best for "light cleaning"
2. I mix a powder called Geosorb from Laffort into the spirit and wait a month for it to settle out. Then I filter it through several steps of cartridge filters all the way down to a .2 micron absolute filter to get all the carbon out. It's super time consuming and expensive and ruins my fil ..read more

Hey everyone
I had something weird happen recently with some bottles of vodka we produce.
A few friends have put some bottles of our vodka in their freezers and had some ice balls form in the bottle.
I’m quite certain I’m hitting 40% abv in the bottle and not dipping below it. Hitting 40-40.4% abv with density meter. 40% with hydrometer and temp correction.
Volumes/weight of bulk tanks and number of bottles packaged are extremely close to bottling run calculations through out software.
Any thoughts or ideas?
Could it be separating in the bottle ..read more

Hey all
We are using a wheat GNS base for our vodka and gin and we are facing a price increase on future totes of GNS. We are currently paying $10.95 per proof gallon delivered and future totes are going to cost us $12.55 per proof gallon delivered.
Any suggestions on sources for wheat gns?
Cheers ..read more
