After years of mobilization and advocacy, dolutegravir—a first-line drug in HIV treatment—will be more widely available in Colombia, thanks to a compulsory license issued by the government at the end of April. This is the first compulsory license ever issued by the Colombian government for the Ministry of Health to use, and it is expected to ensure safer and better treatment for thousands of people, many of whom are migrants.

UAW workers just won a historic union drive in Tennessee, with the Chattanooga Volkswagen becoming the first nonunion automaker to become unionized in the US since 1941. Paramilitaries assassinated the social leader and president of the Agromining Federation of the South of Bolívar, Narciso Beleño, on April 21 in his home in the municipality of Santa Rosa, Bolívar. This crime occurred amid the incursion in the region by the Gulf Clan which began on April 18. The paramilitary group has gone on a rampage in the region, raiding homes, kidnapping residents, and killing several people.

On Wednesday, April 24, the US President Joe Biden signed controversial legislation to force the Chinese parent company of the popular social media platform Tiktok to either sell the app to a US-based company, or be banned in the United States.
The new law is the latest iteration of the ongoing new Cold War against China, dubbing Tiktok a “foreign adversary controlled application.”

Columbia University students who are part of the Gaza solidarity encampment have raised the alarm that during negotiations, the university administration threatened to call in the National Guard to evacuate the camp.
