In observance of the Memorial Day holiday, city offices will be closed Monday, May 30. The Regional Transit System (RTS) will provide its holiday service, which runs between 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Please visit the RTS website and schedule pages for more information. Residential curbside collection services for garbage, recycling, and yard trash will not be picked up on the holiday, and will delayed by one day for the rest of the week. Have a happy and safe Memorial Day weekend!  ..read more

The use of a national energy-efficiency rating system during inspections required by the City of Gainesville’s new Residential Rental Housing Ordinance has earned recognition from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). The city’s new ordinance, which went into effect Oct. 1, 2021, created a permit and inspection program to raise minimum energy efficiency, safety and property maintenance standards for regulated residential rental units. During a special meeting of the Gainesville City Commission, commissioners approved, on second reading, an ordinance amending the Code of Ordinances by redistricting the city into four equally proportioned districts. Commissioners approved the ordinance on first reading May 5. The new ordinance is effective immediately. The city’s charter mandates adjustments to the boundary lines of Gainesville’s four districts within two years of the completion of a U.S. Census.
