Notes from the North: Changes in Leadership
The Vikings Gazette

The Vikings, as you may have heard, recently made some pretty massive decisions. Mike Zimmer and Rick Spielman are out. Sam and I therefore spend some time debating what we’re looking to see in these next hires. Usually, we follow a three down structure (our nod to the CFL). We decided to freestyle this one, eschewing the usual structure in favor of a more free flowing format. Folks who are into Vikings podcasts or think they’d like to get into Vikings podcasts should feel free to give Notes from the North a shot. Hop over to iTunes or Spotify. Notes from the North: Head Coach Wanted
The Vikings Gazette

Never a dull moment, folks. Earlier today, the news emerged that Rick Spielman and Mike Zimmer have been fired. Sam and I recorded the pod before this news emerged, so we really only discussed the coaching end of things. Regardless, there’s some content in there that applies to where this team is at. Here are our three downs: 1) A sales pitch to prospective coaches (and GMs, for that matter) 2) QB shuffle speculation for the Vikings offseason 3) Playoff game of the week and Super Bowl pick Folks who are into Vikings podcasts or think they’d like to get into Vikings podcasts should feel free to ..read more

As TVG‘s faithful readers (the one or two of you still out there) knows, I spend most of my time these days chipping away at things for Purple PTSD. That reality has led to these regular-ish posts recapping the content from over there. My hope is that this extra reading will be both enthralling and enriching. – What Mike Zimmer Deserves – Week 18 Power Ranking: Breaking New Ground – The Kellen Mond Situation is Being Blown Out of Proportion – Expect the Kirk Cousins to Steelers to Rumors to Intensify – The Keys to Cameron Dantzler’s Purple Future – A History of Head Coaching Trades – Report: V ..read more

It was a discouraging end to a discouraging season. The Packers thoroughly dominated the Minnesota Vikings on SNF, thereby solidifying their spot atop the NFC while knocking the Vikings out of the playoffs. The Vikings, quite evidently, have a fair amount of work to do in order to get back to relevance. Sam and I take on three topics in this week’s episode of Notes from the North, as is our weekly tradition. 1) The Lambeau No Show 2) The Impending Shuffle 3) A Playoff Cheering Guide Folks who are into Vikings podcasts or think they’d like to get into Vikings podcasts should feel free to give N ..read more

There’s some content over at Purple PTSD from this past week that may be of interest to TVG‘s readers. I wish you all a great New Year’s Eve. Stay safe out there, and have a wonderful 2022. – It may be time to start cheering for the Cowboys – The power rankings aren’t too kind to the Vikings – The playoff path is no longer straightforward – One wonders if Tyler Conklin will be too expensive – Minnesota signed a raw, upside offensive tackle – Jim Caldwell might be a strong hire for Minnesota – An argument in favor of keeping Zim in Minnesota – Aaron Donald destroyed the Vikings – A power rankin ..read more

Notes from the North: Indifference Takes Over
The Vikings Gazette

Vikings fans seem ready to move on from the 2021 season. It has been a disappointing one, so it’s easy to see why. In this week’s episode of Notes from the North, Sam and I begin with that topic. We then turn to discussing whether the Vikings will capitalize on the two-week rule for hiring new HCs. To close, we consider the upcoming SNF football game against the dreaded Packers. As always, Sam ends us on a high note by discussing all things hockey (and by all things I mean brief updates on the Wild and then the World Juniors). As many of you know, I spend most of my energy these days on Purple PTSD. The end result is a little less time over here at TVG. Every so often, I check in here to promote some of the content that went up over there. Here is a brief refresher of some of the recent content. – Moving on From Rick Spielman Would Be a Mistake – Ryan Ficken Has Done a Ficken Good Job As Vikings Special Teams Coach – Firing Zimmer Could Lead to One Distinct Disadvantage – Prime Time Kirk Will Dominate The Headlines For Rest of 2021 – Death, Taxes, And a Poor Vikings OL – Scattered Thoughts After Scouting Chicago’s L ..read more

It was closer than it ought to have been, but the Vikings still found a way to defeat the Steelers on TNF. On the last episode of Notes, Sam and I discussed how it’s time for major changes in Minnesota. We spend this week focusing on the Vikings win and then looking ahead to the Bears. Before getting there, though, we discuss Cole Smith’s father, who passed away recently. First down is dedicated to him. Interested folks can hop over to iTunes or Spotify. Notes From The North: Time For Major Changes
The Vikings Gazette
by K. Joudry

As I’ve explained before, things have been a fair bit quieter over here since I took over as managing editor at Purple PTSD. One thing that I should do a better job of is offering a short piece to promote Notes from the North, the Minnesota Vikings podcast Sam and I started a little while ago. On the latest episode, Sam and I give our list of most boneheaded decisions from the Lions game, comment on Zim’s job security (or lack thereof), and then offer a few brief thoughts on the Steelers TNF game. Interested folks can hop over to iTunes or Spotify. Enjoy the listening, Vikings fan. The post No ..read more
