Immigrating to the US with Argentine spouse?
Buenos Aires Expats Community
by Fooze

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone has experience with immigrating to the US with an Argentine spouse. I am a US citizen married to an Argentine woman and we have a 12 year old son with dual citizenship. My wife currently has a valid tourist visa. We are trying to determine if it is possible to travel to the US and apply for permanent residency for my wife there, or if it's better to start the process from here in BA, which will take much longer. Is there anyone here who's gone through... Read more ..read more

I have three travel adapters (purchased from Amazon about six months ago) that I no longer need and am happy to give away for free to someone who can put them to good use. About a $40 USD value in total. The adapters plug into the local "Type I" power sockets, and allow you to use any U.S. or Canadian (or Mexican...) small electronics you might have. These are not converters, only pass through adapters, so you can only use them with compatible dual voltage electronics. For example, I've... Read more ..read more

Surcharge for using a foreign card at a restaurant
Buenos Aires Expats Community

So this afternoon we had some bagels at a really great US owned spot in Palermo called Sheikob's Bagels. Everything was seemingly awesome but when I went to pay, the cashier told me they charge a 10% surcharge for using foreign credit cards. I eat out a lot (but not usually at touristy places) and have lived here for 15+ years and this may have happened once or twice in the past but a long time ago. Wondering if anyone else has experienced this or if it’s going to become “a thing” now... Read more ..read more

Hi! I'm looking for an English nanny to play, read stories and basically talk to my 2 and a half year old boy. One hour, once (or twice) a weeek would be enough. It would not be babysitting (I will be there too) but rather sharing some "fun in English" so my child can have an enjoyable experience of the language (he's already fluent in Spanish and he's the sweetest person on Earth In return, apart from your fee, you can count on me for information/advice about our...
