Wonder if anyone else has seen this this year. We’ve been filing the FBAR for many years. Usually, they quickly send an acknowledgment of receipt then a couple of days later, a second one, telling you they’ve filed it away or whatever. This year, they keep sending receipts. We’ve received at least twenty so far. Half of them are the first kind, half the second kind. I’m pretty sure they keep giving us new/different receipt numbers. Is the US government going mad ..read more

Hi there Can anyone tell me what the actual qualifications / experience is required to be given a BC teaching certificate? Basically we would like to move to Canada, we are open to other provinces but we are drawn to BC. My husband has 15 years teaching experience (Chemistry and Biology) including being Head of Department at an independent school in the UK. He has qualified teacher status but this was obtained via something called School Direct? So he doesn't have a standard PGCE or Degree in teaching itself. He does have a 1st class honours Degree and a PHD in a scientific fields, is this co ..read more

Hi, I am a permanent US resident that has never worked in the US. Until recently I was getting medical insurance via my wife’s group policy. Now I have to apply for Medicare and because my wife is not 62 I have been advised that I cannot use her as a spouse dependent and have to apply in my name only. I have been advised as I have no credits that I will have to pay for Part A , at a cost of some $ 500 until my wife reaches 62. My personal taxed income is less than $20K. Since my wife is not part of my application can I claim Medical Savings Program, or is my income deemed as joint? The state I ..read more

Hi, I’ve been in the US on L-1A visa for 2 years. My partner has been here on an E-2 for the same amount of time. My employer recently got bought out by a PE Firm, and new ownership are less than desirable. I won’t be getting fired, but workload is off the charts and progression is limited. We’re getting married at the end of the year. I know I can file I-539 to change to E-2S and look for new opportunities. I have the following Qs: - what is an estimated timeline for the switch and getting a new job? Looks like I don’t need EAD with recent rule changes. - is premium processing available ..read more

High Interest Savings Account Opened in UK

We need to move our savings account in the UK which is due to change to a low interest rate in June, but are due to move to Spain in the next couple of months permanently. I notice that some savings with high interest accounts can only be opened in the UK and I know some banks don't like you operating your bank account from Europe and may even close them. Is there any that people know of where we can open an online instant high interest savings account in the UK and keep it when we are in Spain and make withdrawals from there (online) of course also whilst in Spain ..read more

Hi everyone I received my 491 visa grant in December and shortly after my partner and I found out we were expecting a baby. The baby is due at the end of May and we don’t intend on moving over and activating our visa until October. How do we add the baby on to the visa, or do we need to apply for a new visa for the baby and does it need to have a medical done? Just wondering if anyone has been in this situation. I’ve tried to contact the department of home affairs but it’s near impossible to get a reply from them. thanks ..read more
