For the best viewer experience I would say a clear sky is mandatory. But even at cloudy nights with a strong aurora, it can be beautiful Seeing the clouds back illuminated by the aurora is pretty cool. This night started with heavy rain and a complete covered sky. As the Icelandic saying goes: if you don´t like the weather...wait 15 minutes. Northern lights season started with a bang in Iceland and worldwide. Beautiful displays for days on end, with a few nights a chance to see an overhead corona. When activity is very strong this sometimes causes the rays or rayed bands to converge into one point where they form a corona. The crown of the northern lights. This usually doesn´t last long, sometimes a few seconds. This night it kept going on for a few minutes, the ultimate aurora display. Canon R6, ISO 12800, 1/13 sec.
