The Road to Joey Daccord’s First NHL Win
New Era Sens
by Alex O'Reilly

When the horn sounded last night and the Ottawa Senators held on to defeat the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-3, Joey Daccord became the 31st goaltender to register a win for the Sens. In doing so, he registered his first NHL win. His postgame interview really showed just how much work it takes to get to the NHL, and how fulfilling it was for him to achieve his dream. It was a long road, but one that made him a better player. Getting Drafted Goalie’s paths to the NHL are typically longer and harder than it is for skaters. After all, there are only 62 goaltending spots in the NHL. As a result, it is not ..read more

Sens Fans Shouldn’t Compare Chabot to Karlsson
New Era Sens
by Alex O'Reilly

This season has been a mixed bag for the Ottawa Senators. The season started out with the team beating the Toronto Maple Leafs, followed by a disastrous west coast road trip. However, after the road trip, things started to turn around, and the team started to string together a couple of wins. While a couple of blowout losses to the Edmonton Oilers are still fresh in the minds of Sens fans, there is a lot to be positive about this season. That being said, one player has been getting a lot of criticism, and that player is Thomas Chabot. Thomas Chabot is the star blueliner for the Ottawa Senators ..read more

Searching for the Ottawa Senators Next Captain
New Era Sens
by The Logfather

By: The Logfather Who will be the 10th captain in Ottawa Senators modern day history? There has been a ton of debate on this recently. In all honesty, it probably started the minute Erik Karlsson boarded the plane to San Jose in September 2018. Since then, the Sens have had a few guys wearing the ‘A’ but have yet to take the step forward and hand the ‘C’ over to someone.  To anyone that is watching this team and their maturation, it really is a 2-man competition for this position. Sometimes when you compare 2 players, you look closely at numbers. In terms of the captaincy of a team, it ..read more

Ottawa Senators: It’s Time to Give Logan Brown a Chance
New Era Sens
by Alex O'Reilly

Tuesday night’s game versus the Montreal Canadiens was a fast-paced and exciting game. There was a blown lead, a controversial overturned goal and a shootout won by the Ottawa Senators’ young stars. With all that happened, it is easy to forget that Derek Stepan went down with an injury in the first period. He went down clutching his shoulder and it was announced that he had an upper-body injury and would not return. We don’t know exactly what the injury is yet, but it’s reasonable to assume that he could be out for a while, especially if he dislocated his shoulder. If that’s the case, the Sena ..read more

Ever since the Ottawa Senators entered a full rebuild in February 2018, the hype has been centred around a select group of younger players. Initially, it was prospects such as Logan Brown and Alex Formenton who garnered the most attention from the fans. New Era Sens
by Jackson Schwam

The Ottawa Senators currently sit last in the NHL standings. Will the upcoming draft alleviate any of the pain from another losing season? Following a busy 2020 offseason, the Ottawa Senators appeared poised for a competitive resurgence. However, a perfect storm of underperforming players and a competitive North Division quickly threw Ottawa’s ship off course. With a playoff appearance becoming more and more unlikely, scouting the upcoming draft crop becomes increasingly relevant.  When will that draft take place, though? As reported by Darren Dreger on TSN’s insider trading, the NHL is c ..read more
