Thread: General Gaming:: Would You Rather? [Poll #57]

by balley40 Happy Friday, y'all! This week's poll is loosely inspired by the 1985 film, Brewster's Millions. Standard Disclaimer I want to acknowledge that in reality most people would prefer to find a different option to the two presented in these polls. This is a theoretical exercise in which people are compelled to choose one of only two options. Please embrace it for what it is, think about your priorities that underlay how you interact with the hobby, and then tell everyone why your answer is the correct answer. [poll=2021140] Elaborate on your response below! Bonus question for disc ..read more

Thread: General Gaming:: A Board Gamer's Guide to the Olympics (or vice versa)

by wesleyrm76 Hey everyone, I am very excited about the Olympics officially opening today! While most sports try to prove who has the most speed, strength, or precision, it is interesting to see how we have developed a variety of rules to add strategy and skill to these tests of human abilities.  I have been thinking about some of the categories of sports and how they might relate to mechanics in board games. I decided to compare the similarities between the two. Whether you are already an expert in Board Games or Olympic Sports, you might find a new interest in the list below. In each se ..read more

by JayUnplayable Hello gamers! I host a channel called Unplayable, where my friends and I post videos about card games we love. I recently started doing more board game-centric videos and hope to continue in the future. My most recent was a video about board games for card gamers, so here is the list and the video! I ranked these in order of which I think card gamers will like the game and not personal rank of how much I like the games. Let me know what you think about these picks and what games you think card gamers would love! Thanks. 10- Raptor 9- Unmatched C&F 8- Dice Forge 7- Blood ..read more

Thread: General Gaming:: It is time for rule books to be updated as PDFs that are easier to read on phones....

by GasPumpGirl I think it is now not controversial to say that a HUGE amount of people have smartphones and the newer generations use them constantly in everyday life. Now almost all of these phones are around 16:9... but almost all rule books are designed as PDFs as a4 with two columns of text. Meaning, on phones you need to zoom into the page and scrolls the view around on it to be able to read anything.... Here is a mock up of a phone screen. One has a double page spread set to the page width, the other has the text column width. Now I understand that some rethinking about how layouts ..read more

by Romper_The I am interested here in experiences different than just your favorite or best board gaming sessions (though they may still qualify); simply being ‘memorable’ may not be enough. I want to know what are the times you had a gaming session that was truly special - it meant something more than just ‘playing a game.’ I think timelessness would be another way to describe this feeling. What was the game? Why was it special ..read more

by natendo14 I was checking out some of the ratings on Everdell Duo and these are just some quotes: "Poor cow, trying to take the last drop of milk by Starling Games." "Not even gonna [give] this one a chance" "They can't keep getting away with this!" I don’t bring this up to discuss Everdell, ratings before release, duo/duet trends, or “controversial” games (although that’s obviously subjective). Seems more like people who usually enjoy that company's work. A company is choosing how they spend their time, resources, and money and you get personally offended? I can understand a slight dis ..read more
