Every time I see my beloved S(h)iva described as the God of destruction, I cringe. There are so many better words that this process of His could have been translated to, but sadly, the translators were generally from way outside the dharmic paradigm .... dissolution, dismantling, absorption, tearing down, extinguishing, deconstructing, decomposing, merging, dissolving, disintegrating, ... Tomorrow is Thai Pongal. We're currently at -36C, tonight it's supposed to set records at -45 or so, and tomorrow, starting at 8:30, Thai Pongal goes on. Mainly it consists of starting a fire outside, and boiling a pot of 'pongal' (a mix of grains) over to ensure good harvests. The priest then comes out and does a brief sun puja. So it will be interesting for sure. Hopefully the priest can chant really fast, if he indeed goes out. The young male devotees will handle the pot part, if they...

I've long known that Vasant Panchami is a day to honor Saraswati, and when I was able, I'd attend the yearly puja.
I read recently that sometimes Surya is honored in some places(sometime in exception to Saraswati, other times alongside her). I see Kamadeva is honored in some places too, and this day is seen as the one Shiva immolated him with his fiery glare(eventually bringing him back).
