Tomorrow is Thai Pongal. We're currently at -36C, tonight it's supposed to set records at -45 or so, and tomorrow, starting at 8:30, Thai Pongal goes on. Mainly it consists of starting a fire outside, and boiling a pot of 'pongal' (a mix of grains) over to ensure good harvests. The priest then comes out and does a brief sun puja. I've long known that Vasant Panchami is a day to honor Saraswati, and when I was able, I'd attend the yearly puja. I read recently that sometimes Surya is honored in some places(sometime in exception to Saraswati, other times alongside her). I see Kamadeva is honored in some places too, and this day is seen as the one Shiva immolated him with his fiery glare(eventually bringing him back).
