Bavinck Typo? -Need Help with Dutch

Hello my friends, Does anyone know Dutch? And if so, do you have access to Bavinck’s original Dogmatics? It seems to me that there is a typo on page 366 of volume 2 where Bavinck is discussing election and reprobation. Towards the end of the first paragraph on the page it seems ‘mercy’ has been substituted for ‘justice.’ I was going to let the publisher know but I don’t know if the mistake is original with Bavinck or not, in which case it ought to be left alone or maybe footnoted. Or... Read more ..read more

New Hardcover MLJ Ephesians set

I think it has been OOP in Hardcover for about 30 years, and perhaps more. (I'm referring to Baker, not Banner, which has the license in the UK.) It looks like new hardcovers are finally out after some delay after having been only available in PB for many years. I think some folks may already have it, or will be getting it soon. Does anyone know if it has also been re-typset, or has it simply been republished in hardcover? (I think it is imitation leather over boards.) I've only seen... Read more ..read more

I recently purchased Beale's Biblical Theology of the NT and His Union with the Resurrected Christ. As a layman I find the sheer volume of material daunting. Can anyone recommend similarly themed books that are condensed and distilled more for laymen? I do like theology but find these a bit bloated for my taste. Thank you ..read more

John Calvin on reading and the folly of purism

But the problem is that many people today do not read books with a desire to learn, whatever they may be about, but rather seek to find something to attack. And if they are able to quibble over a single word, it acts as a stumbling block that prevents them from benefiting in any way at all. Then ignoring all the good in the book, they pride themselves in a way that causes their downfall. Even worse, the most ignorant are the most outspoken and critical. Others are so finicky that a single... Read more ..read more

Reading The Sword and the Trowel in the Spurgeon Library

I admit that I am having a difficult time making much use of the Spurgeon Library's copies of The Sword and the Trowel. For instance, I am trying to find an article that is about halfway through the volume for 1886, but, as you can see if you try reading it for yourself, you cannot go directly to the page that you want, and it usually stops flicking through the pages after a while. Does anyone here know a way around this problem ..read more
