@flugelgirl Is the 200 AD from the Advantage line? I just spoke with someone at a local music shop, and they indicated the 354 and 200AD were the same horn, but for different markets. Is that accurate? Thank you for all the info, BTW ..read more

NOT a didgeridoo?!

What is this? I think it's a Tibetan spiritual / religious horn, kind of like a didgeridoo or alpenhorn. Very interesting. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/144156248743?rt=nc&_trkparms=aid%3D56732482%26algo%3DDEFAULT_ALGO%26ao%3D1%26asc%3DDEFAULT_CONFIG%26meid%3D66ebbcf0e5b3439bbdef30e68b70f6de%26pid%3D101290%26rk%3D5%26rkt%3D10%26itm%3D144156248743%26lsid%3D3%26ci%3D16214%26plcampt%3D0%3A11748918011%2C%26itmf%3D1%26sid%3DAQAGAAAAECvpEv9TeJKE6ShxpAaIWdQ%3D%26pmt%3D1%26noa%3D0%26pg%3D3268220&_trksid=p3268220.c101290.m2333&mkevt=1&mkcid=1&mksrc=PromotedListings&plrfr=https%3A%2 ..read more

Best value instruments: CarolBrass

I think that the best value you might find out there is CarolBrass. They are solid, in-tune and easy to play, not to mention they look nice with a brushed finish. The valve action feels very nice. I have played many "name-brand" trumpets I did not like as much as these. If I were suggesting a new trumpet to a new player, I would suggest CarolBrass. It won't break your bank like a new Yamaha but it will serve the player well for many, many years ..read more

Chemical Cleaning

I’ve been told by the local instrument restoration shop that ultrasonic cleaning will often open up all sorts of red rot damage that wasn’t leaking before the cleaning. They warn people about that before accepting older or obviously compromised instruments for ultrasonic cleaning. I can tell you from experience, though, that they are very good at plugging those tiny holes almost invisibly ..read more

With such little detail, you'll never know without better pictures. If he only speaks Spanish and is in Texas, he's not playing a 38B. That middle trumpet clearly has 2 braces on the tuning slide and that is not a Conn characteristic on their horns, at least the vintage horns! BEWARE!!! It could be a conn job ..read more
