Since the dawn of public education teachers and schools have focused on the academic achievement of students. All students were expected to leave school with basic reading writing and math skills. Some kids excelled and went on to institutions of higher learning, some were trained at a trade such as carpentry, or auto mechanics, and still others left school with those basics and worked at more labor related jobs such as factory or office work. Last week I produced an episode on an article in The NY Times titled "No Way To Grow Up." Great article that spoke to the problems our kids were facing due to virtual learning. This week the NY City Schools want to put everyone on virtual because of staff shortages as well as the number of students who have contracted the CORONA Virus.
