Celtic flute options for beginners

I don't have a lot of spare money, so can't go for an expensive flute, but I don't want to waste my time on something that's not playable either. I was wondering about something like an M&E flute because they're in a price range I could afford now. They have a good sound on youtube videos from what I can tell and seem to play well (not knowing anything about celtic flutes really, but knowing a little about flutes). Reviews seem to be generally positive. Can people tell me if that's correct... Read more ..read more

Fingering Chart for Dizi Flute?

Hello all! I'm new to this forum, and have a question about a flute I found at a neighborhood sale. I thought for a while that it was ornamental since it was in a display case, but after I opened it, it appears to be similar in structure to the Chinese Bamboo Dizi flutes. However, the material is closer to granite, and the Dizi fingering charts online don't seem to fit. I've posted a picture below -- if anyone has thoughts on fingering charts for this or any information in general I would... Read more ..read more

I'm having a serious problem trying to learn flute (for those who don't know, I'm a clarinetist/saxophonist/returning pianist). I'm borrowing my sister's backup flute to try to learn to play the instrument over the summer, but it's just not working. The problem is is that it's a very old flute (for those wanting to know what the flute is it's a Selmer Bundy flute) and I can constantly feel it shooting air out of it. Second, I find it difficult because I can't see where I'm putting my fingers... Read more ..read more

My wife purchased an Aria F200 flute in Australia in 1974. It is nickel plated but may have a silver plated lip plate. She hardly ever played it and recently gave it to our granddaughter. As far as I can find out, Aria did not manufacture flutes. Does anyone know which company made the flute branded as Aria F200? The flute has had almost no use and is proving to be quite a good flute for a beginner ..read more

Hi guys Firstly, I've just signed up to this forum so, Hello everyone. I'm really a trombone player and I've just got myself a flute, so I'm starting at the beginning again. I have a question... I can get a pretty reasonable note with just the mouthpiece section (what's the proper name for that?) but when I put the flute together I can get a reasonable C, B and D, but the A and (high) E are weak and they're about the only notes I can get. Is this sort of problem normal for a beginner or... Hello... and - the wrong embrouchure ..read more
