As a lowly side-scuttling chap, I bow to the sartorial elegance demonstrated by the British Army. Does anyone get tailor-made shirts (not uniform) and if so, any good tips? I am a big chap and normally get shirts in Lewins on Jermyn Street. However, the makers seem to equate an 18" collar & long arms with having a gut like a barrel! Any recommendations where I can capture some of the style missing in the average Crab mess? Cheers ..read more

Not been seen for a while, so who fancies a game? Few caveats to make it more interesting; (firstly) we'll be playing accordant to sections 1-72 of the Trumpington Variations, and sub-sections 7.2(b) through 16.4, excluding all of section 12 and sections 14.5 to 15.7(d), of the Dewsbury Rules. I'm sure the reasons for this will be apparent to everyone and thus not require explanation. Also (and no arguing) Reverse Gumption Thrusts after Nip are disallowed, Double-Backs are restricted to... HMS Prince of Wales, currently conducting trials off the American coast, has witnessed its first Shipborne Rolling Vertical Landing. The Shipborne Rolling Vertical Landing (SRVL) is a British endeavour—a capability at least a decade in the making—that will allow pilots to return to ship with more stores on the aircraft after a mission. It is a process designed to land jump-jet aircraft that uses both the vertical thrust from the jet engine and lift from the wings, thus... Read more ..read more

Giving HMS Victory a break for a while and getting onto something new, while back I built a M16 Halftrack, It's sat awaiting deployment, and I'm thinking of Ardennes snow scene with a Dodge, M16 and some officers doing a map check. I've made this figure set before and It's good, they won't look out of place in a winter setting, slushy snow, roadside ditch with destroyed abandoned kit of the Wehrmacht retreat, with the odd deceased or two laying unnoticed among the rubbish... Not a bad guide in my opinion even 90 years on.... What a Young Man Should Know, 1933. A checklist for becoming a proper man. This was published in the March 1933 issue of the American Harper’s Magazine. The writer, Robert Littell, details the abilities, skills, accomplishments, and extra-curricular proficiencies that every man should have if they are to become a self-sufficient and well-rounded human being, ready for life, and eventually, marriage and raising their own children. The... Read more ..read more
