When one thinks of children of the 1940s, one tends to see youngsters on a railway platform with a little suitcase. Gasmask box over their shoulder and a brown label with the child’s name on it. Or maybe one thinks of a child seeing their first view of the countryside¸ sitting on a haystack and being terrified of the cows around them.
Of course, this was the reality of many children from the big cities of Britain. But the story doesn’t end there. Mike Hutton is a social historian and has...

So Ive been on the Carnivore Diet for the past 140 Days and lost around 2 Stone.
The first month I didnt really know what I was doing and followed the mantra of eat what you like, which when your having 2 Ribeyes per day is awesome but I ended up Plateauing till 5 weeks in when I started to gain weight (from too much protein).
I then read up on the macros of Protein to Fat ratios of 1:1 against your target weight in kgs x 2, which I did however when using the Carbmanager.com app it...

Hopefully most people have noticed that the site seems to be behaving much better & faster than for the last few days. There have been a few issues with stability and the database has crashed several times but I think (hope) that I've got that under control now.
Rebuilding the (massive) search index has failed several times over the last few days but I'm very hopeful that the changes I've made mean that it will finally complete. Hopefully this will mean the search will then behave...

So I was just tucking into a bacon and egg sarnie and it got me to wondering why we never see Turkey eggs?
I love duck, goose and quail eggs but have never seen one from a gobbler?
Is this proof that the ugly bastards are in fact aliens?

Chatgpt is a bit of a game changer, it's arguably one of the most powerful tools known to man as it can create things from scratch - recipes, code, poetry, essays and maths. It will be a nightmare for teachers because there's no way of checking for plagiarism, if you don't like the 500 word poem about glowworms then it'll write another one instantly. You can sign up here: ChatGPT: Optimizing Language Models for Dialogue it's completely free but needs a number and email to register, I'm...

The Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) attempted to destroy British naval power in the sea between India and Burma/Thailand/Sumatra. They almost succeeded, partly due to British incompetence. Fortunately for the British, the Japanese were just as bad.
This is a concise account of the campaign, packed with detail in only 96 pages. The author is Mark Stille who has written numerous books for Osprey, mostly about the war in the Pacific. His biography says that he recently retired from a 40 year...

This came from a sudden thread drift from “What are you doing different next year” after NYE 2022.
We wandered somehow into the preferences between Verdi and Puccini. I like a good Verdi drinking song/March but love Puccini’s lilting tunes that break your little heart: “One Fine Day” from Madame Butterfly comes to mind. But I like a lot of others: Pearl Fisher’s duet, that one from the British Airways ad. But apart from Ride of the Valkyrie, Wagner makes my teeth itch.
So what opera makes...

I know it’s not “Military Equipment”, but this is the closest place I could find to post.
I’m looking to have a suit made. Back story is that I have lost a lot of weight in the last year and recently binned all my suits and jackets as they were far too big. In parallel, changes in the work environment over the last few years mean that I really don’t need suits to wear to work. But, I do need a suit for weddings, funerals etc, and now it turns out that my wife will be invited to a...
