One Round Boxing

David Benavidez and Demetrius Andrade were both looking to make a statement heading into their Saturday clash. Both undefeated Super-Middleweight titlists knew a win would secure the lucrative Canelo Alvarez fight both have been pining for. Benavidez seemed far more up to the task than Andrade. In the first two rounds, Andrade was using his legs, and jabbing trying to stay away from Benavidez and his power. He was boxing and moving well, but nothing he was landing seemed to deter Benavidez from stalking forward.  In round 3 Benavidez found his rhythm and started finding a home for his pun ..read more

One Round Boxing

Way back in November 2021, during the Canelo Alvarez vs. Caleb Plant Super-Middleweight unification bout Jermell Charlo boldly claimed “I can beat Canelo”. Coming into the fight Canelo had questions surrounding how much he still had left. He is only 33 years old, but with 63 fights under his belt, many felt the wear and tear was starting to take its toll.  You add in 2 out of his last 3 fights he was dominated by Dmitry Bivol and put on an underwhelming showing against overmatched John Ryder. Maybe these recent events gave Charlo reason to believe he could pull off the upset. They are the ..read more

One Round Boxing

If you were not able to tune in this morning, you missed the fighter that many consider the #1 pound-for-pound in the world legitimizes his case for that ranking. Naoya Inoue was moving up another weight class and jumped straight into taking on the recognized champion Stephen Fulton Jr. Fulton a natural super-bantamweight was supposed to represent a bigger and stronger challenge and test Inoue’s skills like never before. Except, none of that happened. From the opening bell, Inoue showed that he was simply a step ahead. Despite Fulton being the bigger fighter, Inoue was able to negate Fulton’s ..read more

One Round Boxing

The first of two big fights in boxing takes place at the Ariake Arena in Japan. “Cool Boy” Stephen Fulton Jr. (21-0, 8KO’s) takes on “The Monster” Naoya Inoue (24-0, 21KO’s) for the unified super-bantamweight championship. Inoue began his career at 108 pounds, and is seeking to win a title in a 4th weight class. Fulton is looking to defend his WBC & WBO titles, and would secure what would be the biggest one thus far in his career. One question jumps to the forefront of my mind when assessing this fight. Will the size difference catch up to Inoue? Oscar De La Hoya struggled with Felix Sturm ..read more

One Round Boxing
by James Lafond

John “The Beast” Mugabi is one of the hardest-hitting 154-pounders in recent ring history. This observer is of the opinion that his punch would have earned him the highest level of respect amongst the fighters of earlier eras. John was a standout amateur boxer who won the bronze medal in the All-Africa games in 1978 and took Silver in the 1980 Moscow Olympics, defeating 4 of his 5 opponents and losing the gold medal match by a majority decision. One Round Boxing
by Amin Muslim
11M ago
After 12 very competitive rounds, Devin Haney retained his undisputed lightweight championship over a very game Vasiliy Lomachenko. The fight was billed as “Checkmate,” and it lived up to the name. From the sound of the opening bell, fans were treated to a tactical but action-packed fight. Haney was looking to fight from behind his jab all night. He was the bigger fighter and wanted to use his size to control the fight. He was jabbing well but also punching the body well all night long. Body punching in boxing is not eye-catching, but if you looked at Loma’s midsection and rib areas, you could ..read more

One Round Boxing
by Amin Muslim
11M ago
Saturday May 20, 2023 we have another big fight on the boxing docket. This time the fight will determine 135 lb. supremacy. Standing on one side you have former pound-for-pound king Vasily Lomachenko (17-2, 11KO’s), across from him you have the undisputed lightweight champion Devin “The Dream” Haney (29-0, 15KO’s). Lomachenko was last in action in October of 2022 picking up a unanimous decision win over Jamaine Ortiz. Although he was victorious, he did not look like the fighter once dubbed “No Mas Chenko”. Some leeway can be given however, as he did step away from the ring to fight for his hom ..read more

Davis Drops, Stops Garcia in Seven
One Round Boxing
by Amin Muslim
1y ago
After seven competitive rounds, Gervonta “Tank” Davis stood victorious over “King” Ryan Garcia. There was a lot of talk in the days leading up to the fight. Each fighter was promising to knock the other out in highlight reel fashion. Now while the fight did not turn into the next Gatti vs. Ward, it turned out to be a very good technical fight. From the opening bell, you could tell Davis’s strategy was to box his way to the KO. He was moving off the jab, looking for openings when they came available. Garcia came out aggressively looking for a home for his left hook, as he threw it almost immedi ..read more
