Sixteen Stitches

You can tell that I grew up in the 90s with this Clueless inspired outfit including a high-waisted skirt with a flounce hem and short cropped jacket. I made this right before we all locked down from Covid so I haven’t had a chance to wear it anywhere yet. Description: Slim fitted high waisted skirt with flounce hem and a short cropped jacket. Pattern: Bouclé Skirt and Bouclé Jacket Fabric: Wool from Spotlight I love the shape and style of the skirt, I think I’ll now make one in denim so I can wear it casually. It’s also really quick and easy to make! To make the outfit complete, I’ve cr ..read more

I’ve been wanting to try out this BurdaStyle Cotton 101 dress for some time because of how amazing the sleeve detail is. This is my first test dress that I made with some scrap material I had left over from my latest Macaron dress. Description: This dress features a high waistline, A-line cascade skirt and a sophisticated sleeve detail. Pattern: BurdaStyle Cotton Dress 101 06/18 Fabric: Cotton Sateen from Spotlight BurdaStyle Cotton Dress 101 The only alterations I made on this dress was taking the skirt up above my knees. Everything else in the dress is as per the original pattern. The next ..read more

Simplicity 2360 Dress

I wanted to test out this pattern because of the shape and femininity to the style. However, the fabric choice that I picked wasn’t the right fit for the dress. I originally included the sleeve frills but decided that it was a little too over the top, so I ended up removing them. Description: V or round-neck loose-fitting dress with waist gathers and frilled shoulders or neck line. Pattern: Simplicity 2360 Fabric: Duck Cloth Cotton from Spotlight I cut out a size 10 but it’s still quite large around the top, so it’s looks too big around my neck and shoulders. Especially with the type of mate ..read more

One of my favourite dress fabrics to use is Cotton Sateen because it can create the most gorgeous dresses. I found this fabric at Spotlight and thought it would look really great being broken up by some white cotton sateen. Description: Misses’ dress with slim or flared skirt has front & back bodice options, sweetheart or twist-front & open back. Including sleeveless, 3/4 or cap sleeves. Pattern: Simplicity 1651 Fabric: Cotton Sateen from Spotlight Simplicity 1651 I cut out a size 10 and had to take it in a fair bit around the sides and front. Also I found the sleeves to be a little p ..read more

Two-Toned Leila Dress
Sixteen Stitches
by Erin Louise

As soon as I finished my first Leila dress by Marsha Style patterns I knew I needed another one! I decided to colour contrast it with this abstract Duck Cloth cotton from Spotlight. This dress is so cute and comfortable to wear on the weekends and also really easy to make up! Description: The Leila Dress features a V-neckline with gathered tiers. Pattern: Taree Marsh Leila Dress Fabric: Lightweight denim Changes I made: I brought the v-neck higher so it wasn’t so low cut. I also took it in about 10cms at the sides so the overall dress wasn’t so full. This colourful shift ..read more

My latest summer dress is the “Leila Dress” by Marsha Style patterns. This is a very popular style of dress at the moment, so it’s nice to be able to make my own version. The Leila Dress is easy to download and print out. It has a number of variances to choose from and it’s very quick and easy to stitch up. There is a sleeve hack on Taree’s blog to make the sleeves shorter. Otherwise you can make them mid or long length. You can also add another layer to the dress to make it maxi length. I wanted to make some soft cases to store my sun and reading glasses. These are quick and easy to make and perfect for use in your handbag, car or around the house. I recently found a heap of versions of this dress searching on my Instagram sixteenstitches. There were so many beautiful styles made from linen to the lightweight rayon fabrics, so I thought I’d test out the pattern myself. The dress below was the first ‘test’ dress that I made from some scrap lightweight linen I had and I’ve since purchased some 100% cotton material to make my second version. Description: With a loose, body-skimming silhouette and a number of interchangeable features it’s the ultimate for easy dressing. Tilly Buttons Mathilde Blouse (Edited)

My latest blouses made from linen were inspired by a number of loose fitting comfortable shirts that I purchased from Petal and Pup. I ended up buying two shirts ($60 each) before I thought about creating my own. I scoured through a number of patterns to try and find something similar and ended up landing on the Tilly and the Buttons Mathilde Blouse. The image on the left below is the Tilly and The Buttons Mathilde Blouse and the picture on the right is the Petal and Pup Blouse that I took my inspiration from. Colette Macaron Dress
Sixteen Stitches

You can probably assume from all the dresses I’ve made from this sewing pattern that it’s one of my absolute favourites. I’ve had this beautiful cotton sateen fabric sitting in my stash for quite some time and couldn’t decide what to do with it. Maybe because it’s so bright and colourful, creating it as a solid dress might have been too much. So splitting it up using the Colette Macaron using the white top was the perfect combination. You can see see my floral Colette Macaron, my two toned Colette Macarons, as well as some other Macarons in my sewing archive. The dress contains front pockets ..read more
