Buescher baritone - interchangeable parts

I was researching on the aristocrat series 1 here lately on the usual tuning issues they all have. While looking at another forum here it said they use the same neck in the big B as well. I was wondering if other parts like the upper stacks are interchangeable as far as parts go. I'm also gonna include the 400 in this because they also look really similar in the upper stacks/palm keys ..read more

C Melody Mouthpiece Review

Took a chance on this metal no-name (Weibster?) Chinese mouthpiece from eBay for $60. For context, I have a 1925 straight neck Conn NWII on which I've been playing a Mouthpiece Planet / FAXX C melody piece with Rico 3.5 reeds. I've played the whole sax family as an advanced amateur jazz player in several bands for decades. My tenor setup is a Berg 115/1 SMS on LaVoz Medium Soft, alto Lamberson 8DD or Meyer 7 on Rico 3. My alto tone is like Cannonball, tenor like Sonny Rollins, C melody also... C Melody Mouthpiece Review ..read more

Ronnie Scott's - review

Just got back from London where my wife and I saw Marcus Miller at the famed Ronnie Scott's jazz club. Here's a quick accounting of the experience. Even though we bought tickets online months in advance, they only guaranteed admission, not assigned seats. We arrived 20 minutes before the advertised "doors open" time to find lines far down the block in both directions, one for "club members" and one for ticket holders like ourselves. Once inside you're escorted to a table at the discretion of... Ronnie Scott's - review ..read more

This cd came up on my iPhone and I was listening as I took my grandson to tai qyan do. He asked why I like this music. I said I like how it makes me think. If I said he reminds me of many great players he wouldn’t understand. At least I introduced him to great music. ( jazz ..read more

Basic jazz blues solos for transcription

I am a beginning improviser (though not a beginner on the saxophone) - I am starting with the blues, as most beginners do. I would like to start transcribing, but I'm not sure where to find some good basic solos suitable for a beginner transcriber. I do have Miles Davis' "Kind of Blue" CD and am working with it. I also play alto, so alto players would be very helpful. Most of what I have found is tenor. Thanks for your patience - I'm sure this sort of question has been asked before. I... Loved all the GS mouthpieces and can’t decide

So I recently trialed the Reso 5 JA, Slant 6 and Mark II 7. Loved them all. So easy to play. I immediately decided to keep the Reso - nice close tip mouthpiece I’ll always be able to play even after periods of not playing. I’m primarily a clarinetist. Since they’re so affordable, I want to get one other because of how different they are. The Slant was very focused and consistent across the entire horn. What blew me away was when I had a Link 6 over thirty years ago when I was an... Loved all the GS mouthpieces and can’t decide ..read more
