I learned how to do this 30 years ago from Ralph Loomis, principal clarinetist in the U.S. Coast Band for many years. I'm not sure if he came up with this himself, but I think he did. I am astonished of the prices of mouthpieces these days. As a tenor player of 50+ years I have played all the major mouthpieces of my day. Otto Link. Berg Larsen. Bob Dukoff, etc. In my day these were the most expensive. $100. Today the major mouthpieces are $500-$700. I feel cheated. I am not a rich person. But I'm just priced out of the market. Ive known the name Eddie Harris for years, but never really checked out his music. My big mistake !! Ive found it now, and find it fantastic !! Check out this track. How good is that !! The rhythm thing he gets in to is what is really interesting to me. Just repeating one or a few notes with a great groove, then adding jumps up to harmonic stuff. Hugely tasty. I love it.
