The Portland Timbers officially introduced Phil Neville as their new head coach on Tuesday. Neville most recently coached in MLS from 2021 to midway through 2023 at Inter Miami.  He also has experience coaching the England Women’s National Team, and as an assistant for the Canadian Men’s National Team.  Of course most people know him from his 19 years playing in the English Premier League for Manchester United and Everton.  He also has 59 appearances for the English National Team. The Portland Timbers knew a win on Saturday night would have secured them a playoff spot, but a draw or a loss left it open to other results.  And everything would go wrong for the Timbers on this night as they ended up on the short end of a 3-1 result against the Houston Dynamo, and other results did not go their way, and they will miss the playoffs for the second straight season. The Portland Timbers got a solid beating at the hands of CF Montréal. at the short end of a 4-1 result. Sunusi Ibrahim, Kwadwo Opoku, Mathieu Choinière, and Mason Toye would all score for the hosts, while Franck Boli would net the lone Timbers goal. The Timbers settled for a 3-3 draw in Los Angeles against the Galaxy on Saturday night in a match where both teams let leads slip.  Santiago Moreno and Felipe Mora would score for the Timbers, along with an own goal by the Galaxy’s Eriq Zavaleta.  Zavaleta would score twice for his own team, along with a goal by Douglas Costa. The Portland Timbers continued their hot streak on Saturday night, despite missing a load of starters especially in their midfield.  But they made it pay off as Antony, Santiago Moreno, and Felipe Mora all scored in a 3-2 win over the Colorado Rapids.  Diego Rubio and Andrew Gutman would score for the Rapids. The Portland Timbers had goals from Felipe Mora and Evander and kept their solid run of play going with a 2-1 win over Austin FC.  Sebastián Driussi had the lone goal for the hosts.
