Good evening to you all... I found 4 new open box JBL 2268HPL drivers locally listed for $120 each.... Seeing them on Parts Express for almost 3x's that I decided to pick them up with no real plan for use. Reading the specs on comparing to the PA460 (I have 4 of these as well).... The JBL seems like a superior driver but may require more volume. I have not been great at using modeling software so I will if anyone would be interested in modeling the JBL driver in the VBSS enclosure. I... JBL 2268HPL vs PA460 ..read more

Analysis of Linea Research 44 Series Features for DIY Subwoofer Arrays

I've been away for a while but started research for buying subwoofer amplifiers again. My existing pair of rack mount subwoofer amps (speakerpower) seem to have burned out channels after about 6 years and I am in the market for new amps. Each of my four speakers boxes are DUAL Dayton Audio Ultimax 15" wired for a 2ohm overall load. The drivers are rated for 800 RMS / 1600 peak power handling. Therefore two drivers would have 1600 RMS / 3200 Peak power handling since that power is shared... Analysis of Linea Research 44 Series Features for DIY Subwoofer Arrays ..read more

Gray cast iron subwoofer - why is it so expensive?

I'm considering building several 18" shallow subwoofers and I'm thinking to use gray cast iron. The reason for using gray cast iron instead of wood would be the damping properties of the gray cast iron, dimensions, strength of the material (I plan to place some heavy speakers (200kg each) on top of the subwoofers) and I think they would look cool. As I have close to zero experience with DIY ideally I would like to just buy a ready made box based on the dimensions I need and just... Gray cast iron subwoofer - why is it so expensive ..read more

Reducing directivity of a 12" guitar speaker - ideas and tests

Hi all. I took my guitar amp outside to do some measurements. Im trying out different methods people have come up with to reduce beaminess. Im here to show some of the results and ask for help, incase anyone has any ideas! So far Ive done a 180 degree test of the amp without any mods. I've always wanted to do this. It's an open back guitar cab, so I wanted to see what frequencies come out the back. Ive tried a few different mods as well. Open cell foam in the form of donuts, and discs, and... 2x ported 18's and 2x sealed 12's ? or ported 12's and sealed 18's ?

Edit: Forgot to include the drivers. I have 2x Mach 5 audio IXL 18.4 (single voice 4ohm) with 22mm xmax good for around 650 watts sustained And 2x Shok Industries Triton 12's dual coil good for around 500 watts sustained with something like 12mm xmax. Both driven by some inuke/nx3000 amps I want some decent bass down to 20hz but also want some good mid bass kick in the chest. I have some 18" drivers and some 12" drivers. I'd also like to have the smallest cabinets within reason. I'm... 2x ported 18's and 2x sealed 12's ? or ported 12's and sealed 18's ..read more

Dolby Atmos Anyone? How about High Efficeincy Rear surrounds?

New build incoming!!! So I have been thinking I need some good...no great Dolby Atmos/Height/rear speakers. Now I have been looking around at a lot of great designs. JTR has their 110 that look interesting. Then you have DIYSG that has their Volt 10 speakers, However, they look like they are no longer stocking them. Then there is the SVS elevation. The one thing I like about all of these is that they can be used as Atmos speakers mounted on the ceiling or placed on the wall at varying... Dolby Atmos Anyone? A simple item I made because my miniDSP has been annoying me since added more robust cables and it won't stay where it's put. The 2x4HD is frustrating with it's connection design in some respects and if you want to secure it this will do so with a nice friction fit mount. The only one I could find wouldn't fit because of the feet so I made my own. MiniDSP 2x4HD Mounting Bracket by mgrobins | Download free STL... MiniDSP mount ..read more
