I was going to build a VSPS, which I've already built in the past a couple times, buy with lower gain just hoping it might lower the "clicks" & "pops". I heard this circuit behaves better in that regard, so yeah let's build it! I've already made a vero layout and I have some questions. I works with the classic 12v bipolar supply. If I use 15v instead, would I have any problems or maybe some components would need another values? I'm using it with MM that puts 5mV. I would like to get around 36db or 3 ..read more

Speakers, Subwoofers and Headphones • Speaker choice for low watt SE-UL 6v6 amp

Hello, I have been looking for a speaker design for a low wattage SE 6V6 amp (Lacewood II with universal preamp). I originally wanted to build the frugal-horn and like the design for it's simplicity but my problem is I don't have corners to place them in but I have a large room 20' X 30' with an eighteen foot cathedral ceiling. I started looking at other types of transmission line / horns. I like the funken series and also a double port rear loaded design which is too complicated for me right now. I found the straight voigt horn and from what little I can find for design specs I ordered a pai ..read more

Audio Sources and Signal Processing • Re: Signal flow with Reverb

It depends on the driver you are using for the tank and the tank characteristics. It also depends on how you are doing the remix. For reverb to operate properly, the original signal needs to flow through the amp and the sustained signal from the reverb tank needs to be blended back into the signal. Usually a standard line level signal is enough to drive a tank if amplified by something like a 12AT7. This was Leo Fender's preferred tactic. If using a line level signal source, then no preamp should be required prior to the reverb driver. But the output from the tank is relatively low, so an amp ..read more

I'm no electronics wiz and mostly stumble along and that is fine with me. I'm building a 2-Channel Hi-Fi reverb tank box and wonder what the signal flow should be. I'm thinking Source -> Pre-Amp-> Reverb ->Amplifier -> Speakers with the ability to bypass the reverb box? Am I on track? Thanks, dj PS: I'm no audiophile. I'm a '70s Headbanger who has recently retired working on learning a little something. Also, I miss my Sansui RA-500. Statistics: Posted by djquecke — Sun Mar 17, 2024 7:07 am ..read more

What did you not like about it? Before I order any parts I would like to know what version to build. I want to build a realy good sounding amp. And the ZCA might be the one. I just wonder if 5 Watts is enough. Thats why I thought the high voltage version would be better suited for me. I love my wine box 6L6 SE UL and this tube has been used in some very expensive Japanese tube amps. I think it a highly underrated tube. Mine are JJs and in my almost cheapo build always sound absolutely excellent. http://retro-thermionic.blogspot.com/2017/02/silver-supreme-6l6-se-ul-amp-in-wooden.html Statistics: Posted by mwhouston — Sat Mar 16, 2024 10:40 am ..read more
