A ball... in a net... | Thad Bell Kansas City Soccer Journal is your new home for soccer! Today is the first official day of the Kansas City Soccer Journal. We look forward to everyone following us to our new home at KCSoccerJournal.com. Why are we moving? SBNation has stopped supporting almost all of the soccer and hockey sites. It is not our place to tell others how to run their business. Where are we going? We looked high and low and were approached by sites that wanted our name, our brand, our reputation and content. None of them felt right so we continued to search. We even researched bui ..read more

Photo by Rich Barnes/Getty Images This week’s update on former Kansas City players. The NWSL kicked off their 2023 season this past weekend and there was a familiar name returning to the game. This past week, Gotham FC announced that they had signed former FC Kansas City midfielder, Sinead Farrelly to a contract. Farrelly was available on the bench for Gotham’s 2-1 opening day win over Angel City FC, but did not make an appearance in the game. Farrelly had retired back in 2016 after sitting out the whole 2016 season with an injury. She last played a game in 2015 when she was with the Portland ..read more

William Purnell-USA TODAY Sports After a beatdown at home, SKC is testing even the diehard fans. The rough start to the season was one thing. But a 4-1 beatdown at home, at the hands of Jordan Morris at the Seattle Sounders, Sporting KC is testing their most diehard fans. On this episode of Shades of Blue, the guys are talking about what changes need to happen. Peter Vermes spoke very openly about his team after the match. We listen to audio and it seems quite clear he is referring to Ben Sweat. Who, on top of a red card, had another very poor performance. Entirely unrelated, we have a new spo ..read more

USA Today | KC Current While it went bad in the opener, it’s by no means time to panic. Let’s look at what went wrong in the season opener. The Kansas City Current have entered 2023 with the expectation that they should be a better team than they were in 2022. That’s really saying something considering they were in the Supporters Shield race until the very end of the season and ultimately lost in the NWSL finals. The season didn’t start as many probably expected after a 1-0 loss to the North Carolina Courage, but there is plenty of time to turn things around (stop me if you’ve heard this befor ..read more

William Purnell-USA TODAY Sports Sporting Kansas City fall to the Seattle Sounders 4 goals to 1 at Children's Mercy Park. On a beautiful spring day and with nice weather for the first time in a while in Kansas City, Sporting Kansas City were looking for their first win of the season against the Seattle Sounders. Most were hopeful that the job could be done with Seattle missing six players to international duty, (Xavier Arreaga, Reed Baker-Whiting, Alex Roldan, Raul Ruidiaz, and Obed Vargas) and missing their second striker Heber with an injury. Sporting came out in the 5th minute with Willy Ag ..read more
