In devastating fashion, FC Cincinnati has blown three two-goal leads in the last two weeks. The Orange and Blue allowed CF Montréal to come back from that margin twice in Saturday’s 5-4 defeat. Despite being up one man for over 45 minutes against the Columbus Crew last week, FC Cincy watched its rival even things up and settle for a 2-2 draw in the unlikeliest of circumstances. Had FCC been able to see out those wins, it would currently be on the playoff line. It would also be taking a five-game unbeaten run back home to face a volatile and beatable Atlanta United side this week. Instead, the ..read more

MLS Match Week 12 ended with a thriller in Cincinnati as the latest ‘Hell is Real’ Derby concluded with the Columbus Crew and FC Cincinnati playing out a 2-2 draw. FC Cincy grabbed an early two-goal lead, but unwisely left the door open for a Crew comeback, and the sides ultimately settled with one point earned apiece. Lucas Zelarayán led the way for the Crew, playing a part in both goals which erased Cincinnati’s early fortune. The Crew came in short-handed with five players heading out on international duty, including crucial players like Gyasi Zardes and Eloy Room, but Harrison Afful and hi ..read more

The growing pains of FC Cincinnati seem to be ever-present six games into year three and fans of the team are left with trying to reconcile scheduled losses with tangible progress. In Saturday’s 1-0 loss to the New England Revolution, that crossroad existed as the team looked hopeless in the opening phase but grew into the game to make it a respectable even if disappointing performance. Being responsible for a 1-4-1 line so far in 2021, you could point at second-year head coach Jaap Stam as an easy target to beat upon. He’s the third full-time coach of the team in as many seasons, though ..read more

Geoff Cameron has become the latest American player to return to the United States, signing with Eastern Conference MLS side FC Cincinnati on Thursday. FC Cincy announced the signing of the 35-year-old to a contract through the 2022 season, which comes with an option for an additional season. Cameron will occupy an senior roster spot on the club’s roster and will certainly give Jaap Stam’s backline a boost. After falling to Orlando City on Saturday night, new-look FC Cincinnati’s latest goal drought is swiftly becoming a hot topic that is all too familiar to its fans. The team has surrendered 10 unanswered goals within five consecutive scoreless halves in the first three weeks of 2021 the campaign. A stark departure from the 2-0 lead the team owned in the first 12 minutes of the season against Nashville SC. What’s more, those goals came from headlining newcomers Brenner and Luciano Acosta in their debuts – seemingly broadcasting that Cincinnati’s high-profile investments would indeed be the ones ..read more

In terms of its MLS life, FC Cincinnati will be hoping the third time is the charm. The 2021 preseason camp, by default, has been the calmest of FCC’s MLS era after the rushed inaugural campaign in 2019 and a dramatic preseason coaching change in 2020. The only drama to speak of, midfielder Frankie Amaya reportedly forcing his departure, is light work compared to what the team is usually enduring in its preseason. Head coach Jaap Stam, who debuted with the team in the Orlando bubble  during last year’s MLS is Back tournament, will not be afforded any excuses after a full training camp in ..read more

FC Cincinnati, Luciano Acosta betting on each other to succeed

Just two years ago, as a member of D.C. United, Argentine playmaker Luciano “Lucho” Acosta was an object of interest for French powerhouse Paris Saint-Germain. That same year, FC Cincinnati was taking its lashes as the historically-worst team in MLS history. As of Wednesday, the two have joined forces and you could argue that they desperately need each other. In large part, the PSG interest was the fruit of Acosta’s gaudy 10-goal, 17-assist season effort the year prior. But the European dream fell apart faster than it came for the now 26-year-old, and when he departed from D.C., his rise to pr ..read more
