The Fine Wine Market at the end of 2021 ends on a record high. The Liv-Ex 100 the industry’s benchmark of 100 top performing wines finished up 23%, outperforming Gold and the FTSE 100. Best performing regions were Burgundy, then Bordeaux and Champagne in order of most traded. Although Burgundy had a strong year – taking its highest ever share of total trade by value (22%) – the standout performer was Champagne. As 2021 comes to a close, we have an exciting Wine Market Report for November. The Liv-Ex 100, the industry’s benchmark, gained another 2.7% in  November, making it 18 consecutive months of gains. Closing at 382.59, the 18th month gain surpasses the record set in June 2011. The Liv-Ex 1000 increased by 2.4% last month. The Champagne 50 was  up 8.1%, being the top preforming sub-index. Bordeaux had a great month in August, taking over 40% of the market. Burgundy took a good percentage of the market aswell, coming in at 18.4%, meaning the French wines continues to dominate the market. The Liv-ex markets are also ascending nicely, with both Liv-Ex 100 and Liv-Ex 1000 rising 1.3% in August. The Liv-ex 100 celebrated its 20th anniversary in July. The market had a constant increase in the month of July, rising 2.6%. The market pushed nicely by Burgundy and Champagne, which showed great results. The Liv-ex 100 closed the month off at 346.57, which is 5% off its all-time high. The Liv-ex 1000 market also shone in July, rising 1.3%, meaning it’s the 11th consecutive monthly gain and has also shown a new all time high. With En Primeur 2020 officially finished, trade outside Bordeaux remained constant. Italy and Burgundy had a good run in June, taking ‘equal parts of the market’ at 16.8%. Both sub-indexes had their best first half to the year. The Rhone also had a great month, rising another 0.6% from May. There was more movement around English and German wines in June. German whites from the Mosel (89%), Rheinhessen (9%), Nahe (0.8%) and Rheingau (0.4%) all increased last month and found buyers. Fine wine prices steadily increased, with Liv-Ex 100 up 0.76%. The Liv-Ex Fine Wine 1000 has been on form within the last 10 months, having consecutively increased, the index closes at 375.97 in June. As the index took a dip in 2018/2019, making new lows around the 340 mark. In the past 4 months price has increased rapidly, making new highs, leaving price +5.47% up for the year to date. Rhone 100 proved itself in June, being the number 1 performing sub-index, rising 1.6%. Price has increased 6.1% throughout the year.
