This year, the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah, begins October 2nd at sundown*. A traditional part of the festival’s dinner is kugel (KOO-gull), a casserole-like (or baked pudding-like) side that is served as part of the main course. The name means, simply enough, “head (i.e. beginning) of the year.” Kugel, in Yiddish, is a baked…

If you have a jar of Everything Bagel seasoning blend that’s been sitting on the shelf, note that it can be used on just about everything.
The typical mix, like Pereg’s, is a medley of crystallized garlic, poppy seeds, granulated onion, coarse sea salt, and sesame seeds.
We first purchased a jar to sprinkle on a bagel and cream cheese. In the absence of an “Everything” bagel, it gave “Everything” flavor to plain, pumpernickel, and whole wheat bagels.

Attention home cooks: Do you have a jar of sour salt?
Sour Salt is the secret weapon of chefs and home cooks alike, says Pereg Gourmet Spices.
The jar gives you the power of pure citric acid (also called citric salt), ready to brighten, balance, and boost the flavors in all your favorite dishes.
This all-natural flavor enhancer is commonly used as a substitute for a squeeze of fresh lemon juice, providing a tart, piquant flavor with only a few grains of the salt.
It’s a natural acidic ingredient found in all citrus fruits, including lemons, limes, and oranges.

March 14th is National Potato Chip Day and March 23rd is National Chip And Dip Day. So there’s no time like the present to introduce our Top Pick Of The Week—the crispiest* potato chip we’ve had the good fortune to encounter: Nantucket Crisps.
Why “crisps?” Because they’re just too crispy to call “chips.”
While every potato chip brand calls its chips crispy (as they should be), Nantucket is indeed the crispiest†.
First, hats off to the flavor developer. This may be the best line of flavored chips we’ve ever tasted. The flavors are impeccable: exactly right, not too much, not too little, the ..read more
