Earth Day
Earth Day is the 22nd April each year. Each year has a different theme and this year’s theme is Planet Vs Plastics. It’s a theme that you could explore with children in many different ways. One way is looking at how plastics affected our oceans. The two books I’m recommending to you are Little Turtle and the Sea and Turtle Rescue. Both are firm favourites of ours.

As an erstwhile teacher, mainly in reception, I can attest to that fact that I’ve never come across a child who hasn’t enjoyed listening to me read aloud in class or eager to share a story with me. So when does this change and why? There can be many reasons children don’t want to read but there are things you can do to help your child to like reading.

Little ones are naturally inquisitive about the world, especially the natural world. Board books and other early picture books seem so simple but they’re actually very complex. Clever ones are not just designed to entertain through their words and illustrations but are part of a sensory feast for babies and young children. Many also impart significant facts that help small kids to make sense of the world around them.
This blog post will share some of the fabulous books we stumble upon that help children discover more about the natural world. It will continue to be added to as we discover new e ..read more

New Tonie Characters for Toniebox
Tonieboxes are such a brilliant gift for children and what’s perfect is that you can add to your collection during the year. When family and friends ask – what does x want for their birthday/ Christmas you can have a wish list of Tonie characters. Throughout the year there are often Tonies on sale and other discount offers to entice.
We’ve had a Tonies Box for over four years now. I did think the novelty would wear off – how wrong I was. Floss our daughter is now seven and still adores her Tonie characters (we do have a Yoto player too – if you’re deciding bet ..read more

Journal Time
I’ve always kept some sort of journal or diary – even if just to add in the life events of the day. In this post I’m sharing my April journal spread. I add mundane stuff like hospital appointments and school announcements to keep me organised.
My Nan passed away a couple of years ago this month and after she dies I found that she too kept similar diaries. Entries that make my heart sing are simple ones – ‘Lisa, Carol for breakfast – nice day’.
A couple of Christmas’ ago a lovely friend bought me a dotted journal and I’ve been gradually getting a little more creative. For April I’v ..read more

Middle Grade March Books
I’m thoroughly enjoying middle grade books and each year in March they have their turn in the spotlight with Middle Grade March. Each week on Instagram Esther (@mrsbrownsbookbox) invites people to join in with a hashtag #8BrilliantBooks.
Each year she holds a week for middle grade books in March. Usually when I join in I share middle grade books I’ve read and loved. This time I’ve decided to add middle grade books I’ve heard great things about and I really want to read.
