If you’re a parent you already know what a daunting task it is to make your children brush their teeth everyday and that too twice a day.
But it doesn’t have to be that ways! We all know that children these days are smart yet choosy. They are picky about the clothes they wear, the toys they play with and the food they eat. In the same way they might have a liking for certain flavored tooth pastes because of their sensitive taste buds. They might prefer mild fruity tastes over strong tasting ones. It is quite usual for your child to prefer a bubblegum flavor, or a melon flavor, or strawberry f ..read more

We all know being a parent isn’t an easy job and to top that if your baby/child sucks their thumbs or pacifier all the time what do you do?
Babies sucking their thumb, finger, or pacifier is a natural phenomenon that gives them a feeling of security. This relaxes, comforts them and even helps them to sleep. As a parent don’t discourage this habit in your baby and stress yourself over this. They will grow out of this habit once they are older.
By the time your child turns 6 or once your child’s adult teeth come into the mouth, the sucking action can affect your child’s oral health and alignmen ..read more

We all know visiting the Dentist is stressful for both parents and their kids. Some children are eager to meet us but there are others who are extremely anxious or fearful of visiting us. However as parents there are certain dos and don’ts you should be aware of so that your child is calm before bringing them in for their dental checkups.
Some of the children we see are extremely afraid of the dentist because they don’t know what’s coming their way especially if it is their 1st dental visit with us. In this case you should talk to your child about the Pediatric Dentist before their dental app ..read more

Some of the parents I meet tell me my kids don’t really indulge in chocolates or candy but still seem to have so many cavities. How do they manage to get these?
When we think of tooth decay first thing that comes to our mind is that sugar is the culprit that’s causing all this havoc in our kid’s mouth. We directly associate this with the sweet treats our kids munch like candy, chocolates, cakes, cookies, ice cream, etc but there are hidden sugars in many of the other so called healthy foods (that we think are healthy but probably are not so) that we eat and feed our children as well, such as ..read more

Time and again I have many parents asking if cleaning or scaling their teeth is really good for them and their children or will it result in weakening of their teeth.
So what exactly is this scaling? Scaling or cleaning is a preventive treatment that involves in removal of the built up tartar/Calculus (hardened plaque deposits i.e. food debris, bacteria) covering the outer surface of the teeth. The tartar is strongly bound to the teeth and makes them look dull and dirty and hence can only be removed by a professional dental cleaning.
Apart from being a cosmetic problem the accumulated tartar ..read more

I see many children on a daily basis in my Dental clinic who either don’t brush often enough or don’t brush at all. Some parents are unaware that they need to start brushing their child’s teeth at a much earlier age. Some kids are using too much tooth paste and some to my surprise use tooth pastes that are meant for adults.
Children are prone to getting tooth decay as soon as the first tooth comes into their mouths. Untreated tooth decay results in pain, infections, and problems in eating, speaking in the long term.
So tooth brushing is something you need to be on top of if you want your chil ..read more

One of the most common reasons parents bring in their kids to my Pediatric dental clinic is when their child complains of a toothache.
Toothache is the mouth’s way of signaling to us that something isn’t quite right. As a parent you can ask your child which tooth is hurting them and how long has it been this way and see for yourself if there’s any damage to your child’s teeth. For example, are there any holes or is there any discoloration in their tooth and if there is any swelling or redness around their gum. One thing you should definitely try and do is clean your child’s teeth and remove a ..read more

Spring holidays are here and it is time for kids to have fun. Most of the dental injuries happen while kids play in parks, ride bicycles in the corniche, roller-skate, run around the swimming pool, or simply bump into their friends or siblings heads while playing.
A lot of these injuries are relatively minor and not worrisome but sometimes the more severe injuries can have lasting and often permanent effects on the teeth.
The injuries we see in our clinic range between chipping the front teeth to loosening of a front baby tooth or knocking a baby tooth /adult tooth out altogether. You as a pa ..read more
