Remote support, Instant IT support to our clients.
PC Support Midlands

Remote support is a crucial way of getting IT help during this current crisis. However, it’s not new. Support Midlands has been carrying out remote support on computers since 1997. In those days, things were different. There was no internet to speak of, access was through a normal telephone line and speeds, if we were lucky were 56kpbs. A far cry from a normal fibre line of 50 or 60Mbps. So, we have been providing IT support remotely for our customers for a long time and over that time the technology has evolved considerably. Now we provide a suite of remote packages that allow us to provide ..read more

Poor .STL file quality and scale?
PC Support Midlands

when you are making your own designs for 3D printing, you may find yourself plagued by low poly .STL files. What was once a beautiful sweeping curve is changed to ugly jagged squares when you try to slice it. the above image isnt too bad but it can get much much worse to the point of your functional models becoming unusable. Luckily this is usually an easy fix. This specific guide will apply to Inventor and Fusion 360 but it can most likely be applied to other CAD programs too. The root of the problem lies in the export quality. this is because CAD software is mathematically defined whereas ..read more

Prusa MK3S Upgrade? The PitStop Extruder.
PC Support Midlands

This post will be applying to the Prusa MK3S specifically but it can be applied to other variants and clones. You can find my thoughts on the stock printer here. In my previous review about the Prusa MMU2S, I mentioned that I had installed a PitStop Extruder on my printer to help with loading, this is only a small part of why I installed this modification. I need to mention first, print this in PETG or better. Mine is in beautiful Prusament Orange PETG. So, why would you want to modify your perfectly good printer? For me, it was a matter of if I could rather than if I should. I wanted the chal ..read more

Fake News! – How An Old Scam Has Resurfaced.
PC Support Midlands

Lets look at an old fashioned phishing email. An old, old, phishing scam is the fake email attachment and one we have not seen for a while is the fax! A lot of companies no longer have a fax machine but can receive emails through online fax services through their IP phone systems. This is one we received today. Like a blast from the past, who can resist looking at a fax? You never know, it might be real so we ran the link on a quarantined machine just in case. We have a lot of faith in Malwarebytes Endpoint Protection (for which we are a reseller!) this is what we saw when we tried to open th ..read more

First of all, what is slicing? Slicing in our context of 3D printing is where the program takes a 3D model you give it and “slices” it into layers that[sw1]  can be printed. This is where support material, infill and perimeters are generated          . 3D printing has two fronts you need to work with to get anything done. The hardware of the printer and filament and the software of slicing parts and generating tool paths, this post will be covering the slicer, there is no better time for this with the release of version 2.3. This is going to be ..read more

The Lenovo Ideapad L340 ticks all the must-have boxes for an entry-level, low budget gaming laptop. As reviewed with Intel Core i5-9300H quad-core processor and a dedicated GeForce GTX 1050 3GB Graphics card, it pushes well above the standard 60fps mark in real-world benchmarks, translating in a smooth gaming experience for all. Design The IdeaPad L340 sits between Lenovo’s own 15-inch business ThinkPad X1 and the gaming-oriented Legion Y545 lineup, but is more of a mid-2019 debut that was a technology refresh of the heavier Legion lineup. The Lenovo IdeaPad L340 is mainly a design change, as ..read more

Prusa Research MMU2S Review.

With the rising popularity of 3d printers, more and more people are finding the limitations of the average printer only being able to use one material at a time. I am quite fond of Prusa’s solution to this. MMU2S stands for Multi Material Unit, this is their improved version 2. This device allows Prusa printers to use 5 different filaments with one nozzle and extruder assembly. This means that you only need one nozzle and your X axis only needs to carry one extruder. With that out the way, this review will be separated into a few parts. Modifications I made to the unit and printer. Multiple ..read more

Why Using The Same Password Is A Really Bad Idea!
PC Support Midlands

A simple explanation – why you NEVER use the same password twice We’re all useless at passwords and security. Who hasn’t used one password for multiple logins? We all hear the most used password is a variation on the word password!!! People often think that using a variation of their password in different places is safe. I am going to describe a quite realistic scenario explaining why using the same password multiple times is a really bad idea. Unfortunately, this is why you should use different passwords for each website or service you access. Lets say you have an email account, JoeyBloggs@a ..read more
