Inertia is everything between you and the front door. Once you are passed the front door, there’s barely any effort involved. It just takes a seismic amount of force to get to the front door.
I tend to think of momentum as an exclusively positive thing, but it’s not. You can have negative momentum. Just the way that good habits can build on themselves, obstructive habits build on each other pretty nicely too.
There is no cure, you just have to change. It can’t be a small change though. Small changes get lost in the inertia pile. You’ve got to go pretty big to remind yourself that you are the ..read more

We recorded this in December last year, but I think you will still get a lot out of it. In this episode we are talking about overwhelm and some of the red flags of your mental health. Sometimes you find them at the doctor or at the gym, or just because everything feels too hard. Running won’t fix your mental health, but it can play a big part in helping you to navigate your challenges and in having something that supports you. And if you are struggling because you can’t run, then check out these tips on surviving a long-term injury. And if you are really time poor, these ideas for being less ..read more

Struggling with running while working full-time? Then this one is for you. Whether you are working full time or managing a full time schedule of work and kids and business, putting the effort in to a running plan, especially something ambitious can be tough.
Full-time work or business or parenting is usually full-time enough, without adding too much more onto your plate. But one thing we all know is that when you breathe into running, you can breathe more oxygen into everything else as well. It can seem like it will take up too much space, but somehow it just makes more. But that doesn’t mean ..read more

It all has an impact, but in this we are focusing on how it has impacted running plans, running training and managing that change both physically and mentally.

Yes, we are talking about NOT running.
Creating space for parenting, business and other adventures. Around here we are usually all about running. And most of the time you hear the story of wow I really struggled and then I figured it out and here I am doing all of the things. This isn’t that story. It’s accepting that sometimes you have to put one thing down to make space for other things.

Ever feel like everyone wants you to be back to normal, but you are just not?
In this episode, I give a bit of an update about how things are going post/during? long covid and what training is looking like right now, as well as how to approach the challenges of building a new routine from the ground up for something you used to be quite competent at.

It’s an old rule of blogging isn’t it? Never apologise for being away because no one cares how little you post. Just write, don’t apologise for not writing.
Anyway, it’s been a minute, or you know the better part of a year or two, give or take. And it’s like coming back to anything it feels bloody awkward and uncoordinated at first. But the only way to get through the bad writing is to keep writing. And even as I write that I feel that it’s very possible this should be an internal, unpublished writing thing – but I can’t help but think everyone is feeling much the same way since 2020 and ther ..read more

Do you ever feel like your life has changed, but your goals are stuck and you are just failing them? This is a bit of a meandering catch up episode, but this is the core of what I’m talking about. In the last two years, a lot of us have had the benefit of at one time or another, taking a step back and taking stock of what really matters. You’ve seen it in the great resignation. And I think running or fitness or training is much the same – it’s time to take a step back and ask are my goals actually in line with what I want my lifestyle to be? Do I still want to run or do this thing, or am I jus ..read more

You can thank all the crappy facebook ads I see for this episode of the podcast The ads that really irritate me are the running specific ones, but there are loads of them out there for all kinds of training and all kinds of diets and they are just as bad. Selling you something that sounds too good to be true, because it is. In this episode I’m talking about:
Three really common (and persistent myths)
The risk to your mental health during periods of fat-loss if your self-talk isn’t where it needs to be
What to set up for yourself that is sustainable, but also isn’t totally dependent on one met ..read more
