What is Cinco de Mayo then?
Cinco de Mayo — celebrated the fifth of May, celebrates the Mexican army’s unexpected 1862 victory over France at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War.
That battle represented a great symbolic victory for Mexico and may well have changed the course of the war. You can read more about it here.
In a nutshell, Americans find this a great excuse to recognize and honor the Mexican culture with some amazing traditional Mexican food.

At our house, St. Patrick's Day has ALWAYS been a big deal. Each year, our home is invaded by the mischievous leprechaun and antics ensue.
You can probably guess that my kids want to try and CATCH that poor pesky Leprechaun and see if they can get in on that whole treasure he is said to hoard!
Each year, my kids build a leprechaun trap in hope of finally catching that elusive leprechaun (and snagging some of his treasure) on St. Patrick's Day.

Some of you may remember how, back in 1993, the bridge was adorned with neon and lit for the first time in a static design by the late artist Rockne Krebs using neon and glass tubes at a time when even public art wasn't all that common much less the thought or notion of lighting bridges.
This catapulted the Texas Street bridge aka "The Neon Bridge" straight into icon-status and temporarily into history as a symbol of unity between the two cities of Shreveport - Bossier at a time when the casinos had yet to even arrive in the area and before the boardwalk was built.
