Babaji Bashes my Addiction Affliction

As I sat in my speaker’s chair, bundled up in my winter jacket and shivering, I looked over at Babaji as he was calmly talking to the group of students. We had been invited to teach a course on Vedic Psychology in Poland. I had learned that when we taught in cold places, like the castle in France where it snowed in May, and this frigid beach town in Poland, that a warm beverage was just what the doctor ordered. I took pleasure each morning in my routine of making my chai, and then sipping it as I listened to Babaji deliver his beautiful words of wisdom. By the time it was my turn to speak, the ..read more

It was a peaceful afternoon as Babaji, his students, and I strolled down the tree-lined quiet streets in a picturesque resort town in Germany. With all the years of a packed, hectic travel schedule, Babaji’s body was feeling the impact. Two of his students kindly surprised him with some alternative medical treatments to revive his body. As I was traveling and teaching with Babaji, I also felt worn out. This Germany visit was a welcome break for me too. I was very much looking forward to relaxing with my German friends while Babaji took his specialized rejuvenation treatments. I was thinking m ..read more

It was 18 years ago that I heard the loud thud on the kitchen floor that changed the direction of my life completely. Aug 3, 2002 was that fated day. It was on that hot, humid late afternoon day that I held my father’s hand on the hardwood kitchen floor of the home that he so lovingly built, as he took his last breath. I was 30 years old and a jet-setting strategic business consultant living in Boston. I drove the two hours home to our country house in the rolling green hills of New Hampshire for the weekend for a family reunion. Little did I know that it was a reunion of a different kind. My ..read more

Some lessons I learned from Babaji were in the moment, like when I was faced head on with the burning jealousy in my own heart at the sight of the young, pretty blond girl in the basement. Other lessons I learned from Babaji were in an after-the-fact kind of way, like years after the event happened. The lesson I’m about to share with you fits into this category. In fact, the event took place over 10 years ago. But I didn’t actually learn the lesson from the event until I had the good fortune of meeting Babaji. Hearing his wise words smashed my ego, which was the bitter medicine required for me ..read more

Giddy with excitement, I descended down the wide marble staircase into the basement where Babaji sat, working away at his desk in the ashram. Babaji had invited me to come to India to work with him for two weeks on a Vedic Psychology project. We had arranged everything by email and within a few short email exchanges, I was on a jet airliner on my way to India. I remembered Babaji’s words about the oppressive heat, advising me to wait until a cooler month than July. But I didn’t care. I didn’t mind the sweat dripping off my back, mocking and taunting the shower I just took. I was fired up to le ..read more

Interview on Loneliness

Join Dr. Josh as he interviews Babaji and Jessica on the topic of loneliness. Loneliness is an interesting phenomenon. The very person who is the knower does not know who he/she/it is. I am the knower. I am the center, and everything else is around me. But I do not know myself so I run around doing all kinds of crazy things trying to escape my loneliness. Some of us drink alcohol or do drugs, binge eat, or shop, stay in bad relationships, go on trips, join a spiritual community, take up yoga, or become workaholics, all in an effort to avoid being with ourself. Being alone is a reality. We are ..read more

A few months after meeting Babaji, I began teaching with him. It happened fast. Although I still lived in Florida and worked at the psychiatric hospital, Babaji invited me to teach Vedic Psychology with him in France. So I took my vacation days from work to embark on this big adventure to teach with my guru. I felt excited, but also nervous about teaching with such a great person. He has thousands of followers around the world, and I was a nobody. Who was I to teach with him? I was worried that I will say the wrong thing, or misrepresent his teachings in some way. One day on a break after teac ..read more

This week I spent a lovely hour with my longtime friend, Dr. Josh, an expert acupuncturist in Tucson, Arizona, who interviewed me on Vedic Psychology. I share many secrets about how the ancient yogis of India see the mind, that my guru, Babaji has taught me over the years. Learn the answers to these questions, which are revealed in the interview: What is the difference between Vedic Psychology and Western Psychology? Why do we have blind spots? How do you view the mind? What are our minds doing? Why do we seek out painful relationships again and again, despite how traumatizing it is? Does tim ..read more

My days teaching the kids and teens at the psychiatric hospital in Florida were some of the most intense moments of my life. It is not that I had an easy, stress-free life until then. Oh no! I had encountered some pretty intense moments over the years in which I lived and worked around the world. I had learned that in order to survive, I had to adapt by being flexible, open minded, and by taking risks. Most of all, over the last 25 years, I had learned how to understand and accept people of all walks of life. I became pretty good at fitting into almost any situation with ease and comfort… or s ..read more
