Hello, I'm new here and interested in learning the craftmanship of knife making. I've been casting composites for many years, for custom pen makers, grip makers, and recently knife makers. I know most of these forums are pretty tight knit, but I thought I would check the interest in composite blanks here. I'll attach a few pics for reference. Thanks for taking the time to read my post ..read more

Good morning everyone. i have a gee-whiz question(s) today. Any thoughts or pointers on using an induction heater like a US SOLID inductionn heater for forging blades. I understand I would need to make custom coils and put a tig cooler to it. Has anyone used one of these devices? Lastly would I be able to make the welds for Damascus steel. Would it handle canister Damascus? Any thoughts or tidbits would really help. Thanks guys Mike ..read more

I just recieved a shinto file from amazon in the mail......I was hoping that it would work good on desert ironwood for rough shaping and stock removal on handles....went into the shop and put a block of ironwood in the vise and give it a try......looks like it is going to work great.....I was avoiding using a lot of ironwood because of the way it would plug up belts and regular files but i think this tool is going to be a game changer......anybody here been using the shinto files for any... Work Sharp Elite

So I bought a Work Sharp Elite sharpening system. I debated it but decided to go for it. I really like it so far. I took it upstairs and put it in the Kitchen and sharpened EVERYTHING!! LOL!! Only thing I'm regretting is not thinking about belt size it's 1x18 so obviously a strange size. There is a guy I found Curry Custom that does do a lot with these. He also sells wheels to modify a 1x30 into a sharpening monster! Will see in the meantime I do like the small footprint and portability of... Read more ..read more

Carbon chrome?

I have an old steak knife that says "carbon chrome" on the blade. The last 1/16" or so of the point is dark but not rough. There are a few small rough spots (like a matte finish instead of mirror like around them........corrosion? It was made by Henley & Co. probably mid century with a carved bone handle. I'm not familiar with the name carbon chrome and an internet search just turned up a set with wooden handles similar to mine that also said carbon chrome on the blades. I did find... Arrowhead Dagger

Over the past 6 or so months I've been chipping away at this project, finally finished. The Arrowhead Dagger has quite a few unique elements. The blade steel contains vintage Fred Bear broadheads and a stylized arrow down the center bar of the multibar blade. The guard has textured arrowhead quillons, and the frame is textured also. The handle scales are knapped Keokuk chert. (I've knapped enough to know that I needed to contract these out to a real knapper lol) This one will be at table 5K... Read more ..read more

Anyone know if he is still in business?? I use to buy his DAM100 billets they were reasonably priced and made a nice knife! Matter of fact after he discontinued the DAM100 I contacted him and bought up his last few remaining billets! I still have a couple I didn't remember having (going thru boxes of accumulated junk!)! But was looking online and all of the tabs related to him seem to be no longer in service and his Facebook page hasn't been updated since 2022? Just wondering if he was still... Read more ..read more
