Brass on knives?

Typically I've used 416 as bolster or guard on fixed blades. Part of me likes the contrast with brass yet it oxidizes easily which has me a bit hesitant because that discoloration may bleed into a porous handle scale. Thoughts ..read more

Hi Guys, I'm new to the forum but have been in the Kydex game for 5 years here in New Zealand designing and machining my own molds for manufacturing. I have since wrapped up the business to pursue other ventures. I have a lot of working cad models available for purchase, if you're interested please make contact and I can flick you images of files you want. All designs have been done in Fusion 360 and are in stp format, they also include my machining toolpaths for machining molds and cutting the profiles for finished product. Fancy vs. bread butter pieces and the time
The Knife Network Forums

Was discussing this with a maker about the range of pieces relative to the $ they bring. Mainly folders because he said that for him to make a sheath it takes 4 hours to do. The time offset he dislikes making fixed blades because of that. We also went into the fancy works relative to the bread butter basics. My question is: do you find the fancy ones to be equal, better or worse in terms of your time into making them up? I'm debating whether I want to do something fancier or devote that time into making basics ..read more

"Hakuna Matata" is a Swahili phrase that gained international recognition largely thanks to its appearance in Disney's beloved animated film, "The Lion King." Translated to English, it means "no worries" or "no problems." The phrase encapsulates a carefree and relaxed attitude towards life, emphasizing living in the present moment and not allowing concerns or anxieties to overshadow one's happiness. As of late I see suppliers with a variety of dyed wood handles. Personally I like the colors yet among a group of us, the artificial infusion was not accepted. The natural woods sold better for those makers. What are your thoughts on these dyed woods ..read more

This Henckels was part of a trade for re-handling some kitchen knives. The Henckels is nice though it wasn't to our preferences so some mods done. That long bolster and it comes fairly hard edged on the spline with a pinch grip. Using it any length of time for prep was a hand irritant. Shaved the long bolster off gave it more of spear point. rounded the spline over so that it doesn't dig into the hand. The heel is a bit high so might take that down a bit so that rocking cuts suit our preference. Top is before and lower after mods done ..read more
