Just a friendly reminder; the FAA has ended its ‘discretionary enforcement policy’ for Remote ID as of March 16th. RID is now REQUIRED for all applicable aircraft. Below is a few notes from the FAA regarding this change. Why is Remote ID necessary?Remote ID is necessary to ensure the safety and security of the national airspace system by distinguishing compliant airspace users from those potentially posing a safety or security risk. Remote ID also helps to lay the foundation for routine advanced operations such as package delivery and flying beyond visual line of sight. What do I need to do?Th ..read more

I have some good friends who work for Anduril and they are super excited about this product! I’d love to know how long it can loiter for before it has to land. Jet propulsion tends to be pretty fuel hungry. Either way, this is a pretty cool interceptor; it will be interesting to see if they modify it for ground targets as well. If so, it could be a strong competitor to the Switchblade ..read more

I saw the announcement of the Anduril Roadrunner and realized that there wasn’t a Counter UAS group to post it in so I made one ? Has everyone seen this cool c-UAS drone? It uses ducted jets/thrust vectoring for VTOL and can even land (like a Space X rocket) if it doesn’t engage a target! https://www.anduril.com/roadrunner anduril.com Introducing Roadrunner Roadrunner defines a radical new class of operator-supervised autonomous air vehicles capable of high subsonic speeds, high G-force maneuvers, and VTOL return to base for reuse ..read more

It looks like DJI just pushed out firmware updates for the Mavic Pro 2 (1.00.0797) and the P4PV2 (01.00.70.17 to enable RID. I’ve successfully confirmed that FW is now available for download on the Mavic 2 Pro and does “Add support for Remote ID requirements in the United States“ Haven’t played with it too much or tested it with any RID receiver apps but the release notes are promising ..read more

Has there been any update here? Are they still expecting us to have remote ID by March or whenever? I keep hearing that DJI is going to bring RID to their P4P via firmware update but haven’t seen it yet. I’m not a big fan of RID anyways so I’d really like to NOT have to spend hundreds of dollars on another box to strap on my drone ..read more

Are you asking about the TRUST test or the Part 107 Certification Exam? If you’re talking about the TRUST test, you don’t need to take any courses…the TRUST test IS a free course (with a test at the end) that you pretty much can’t fail. If you’re talking about the Part 107 exam…obviously, this site has a course that is pretty good (if you’re a paid member) and a practice exam that I’m pretty sure is available for free ..read more

Yeah, I’ve been looking at the uAvionix PingRID and the DroneTag Beacon but $299 / $219 is way too expensive. What other modules have people been looking at that don’t cost an arm and a leg? Given the ambiguity of the enforcement here, I’d be willing to pull the trigger if I could find one that’s reasonable in price and not back-ordered ..read more

Yup…looks like they just clarified it on their FB page. “Drone pilots are expected to comply with the original September 16, 2023 compliance date for Remote ID. However, the FAA understands that some drone pilots may not be able to comply because of limited availability of broadcast modules and lack of approved FAA- Recognized Identification Areas. In those instances, the FAA will consider all factors in determining whether to take enforcement action through March 16, 2024. It’s important to note that the FAA expects drone pilots to comply with the requirements of the Remote ID rule as soon as ..read more

That’s good to know. Like I said, I’ve been trying to find a RID module for my Mavic 2 Pro but now I may not even bother. From what I hear, DJI is going to push a Firmware update bringing RID to the Mavic 2 Pro/Zoom and P4P V2. It’s not supposed to happen until December but it should be done before March. If not, I may be scrambling again next spring. Alternatively…I could use this as an excuse to get a new drone ..read more
