Easy Patio Lighting Project

Maybe it’s the pandemic. Maybe it’s because I’m home so much late now with the kids. Probably it’s a combination of both. Whatever the reason I find myself doing more and more DIY projects around the house. It started last spring with our kitchen table. I needed something to keep the hubby busy during his brief quarantine layoff. I’d been wanting to either get a new table or update ours since it didn’t really match anything in the kitchen. Over the course of a couple weeks we stripped it, painted it, and stained it. It came out exactly as I hoped. Refinished Table Project In the summer we upda ..read more

Embracing my Xennial status

How do you know you’re getting old? When you stalk the Amazon delivery man for your package of organizing bins and boxes. That’s what I found myself doing this last weekend. I had recently started tearing apart my bedroom and bathroom closet in the hopes of reorganizing them (one of my New Years resolutions). However, I soon found the bins and boxes I had purchased didn’t fit quite right. So I remeasured and then ordered more….and the wait began. In the mean time, I read (and watched) “The Home Edit” and “Fixer Upper” reruns looking for design inspiration and itching to tear apart and redo my ..read more

Winter has finally set in here in Mid-Michigan which means bring on the comfort foods! Let’s face it, after spending the day outside in the cold and snow, it’s nice to come in to a warm hearty meal. However, who wants to spend the day cooking said meal (especially when you could be playing in the snow)? That why I love using my crock pot!! Throw everything in. Set it and forget it until dinner time. Plus, it usually means minimal clean up. All things this busy momma loves. In previous posts I’ve shared some of my favorite crock pot meals including my Polish/German Potato Soup and my Peaches an ..read more

Why our house needed an “Elf on the Shelf” this Christmas

It was one of those things we said we’d never do once we became parents. Yet there I was coming home from the store with a box. “You’re probably not going to like what I did.” I told my husband as he rolled his eyes. Let me introduce you to Frosty, our Elf on the Shelf. Frosty joined our family on Black Friday and he was just what we needed to help brighten up 2020. For those who aren’t familiar with an Elf on the Shelf, let me fill you in. It’s a scout elf sent by Santa to watch over boys and girls and report back to him. If they are being good, he flies back to Santa at night (thanks to elf ..read more

Crazy For Christmas

Call me crazy but I’ve already started wrapping Christmas gifts. Yes I know it’s only October and we haven’t even celebrated Halloween yet. Believe me there is a big bowl of candy on my kitchen table reminding me. While I love Christmas time, I have never been one to rush a holiday. October is for Halloween (my second favorite holiday). November is Thanksgiving and then December is for Christmas. However, in years past, I have found myself struggling to get in all the shopping, wrapping, decorating, baking, etc. that goes with the Christmas season completed in the few weeks between eating turk ..read more

Peachy-keen: My 1st Attempt at Canning Peaches

I’m not sure it’s because I’m home more now that I’m a stay-at-home mom or because I’m home more due to the pandemic but I find my cooking has exponentially increased, especially this time of year. Since we have a garden, both my husband and I are constantly canning and pickling things to preserve them for the winter. While his specialty is tomatoes, corn, and peppers, I tend to stick with fruits and make homemade jams and jellies (by using a recipe I inherited from his grandma). However, this year I ventured a little out of my comfort zone. We planted fruit trees a few years back: two apples ..read more

My 10 best purchases from Amazon

Shopping used to be my ME time. Time when I could wander the aisles and look for things I needed (and didn’t need). I loved being able to actually see what I was purchasing in the store. To touch it, feel it, see how big or small it was. It was also a form of therapy for me. Two kids and a pandemic later, I do very little shopping in stores other than our groceries. Now online shopping has become a way of life. With more and more stores moving away from brick and mortar store, it’s also sometimes the only way to find a certain item you’re looking for. I recently took a look back at my on ..read more

After 70+ days in quarantine I’m all about simple meals that are still delicious. Enter the slow cooker! I’ve shared recipes for other slow cooker recipes in the last like this Easy German Potato Soup (which I’m actually making this week). However, this time I’m sharing one of my favorite breakfast dishes, Peaches and Pecans Slow Cooker Oatmeal! When I cook this recipe I use my mini 2 quart Crock Pot instead of our big 6 quart beast (he’s so cute and tiny). This is a great make ahead recipe with a lot of items you can find already around your house (added bonus since it means one less trip to ..read more

5 Things living in quarantine has taught me

Quarantine life: it’s something I never saw our family (or anyone else for that matter) having to do when the year started. However here we are, 33 days in. My son’s school year is essentially done except for any work his preschool teacher sends home. I feel bad for him not being able to say a proper goodbye to his friends after his first year in school. I feel more for high school seniors not getting to enjoy prom, graduation and all that goes with the final months of the school year. If you think about it, this is one of those pivotal times in life. It’s a time our kids and grandkids will as ..read more

7 Tried and True Working Mom Hacks

Life as a working mom can be tough. Regardless if you work one day, two days, or even five days a week, juggling family life and work life can be stressful. There’s a saying I heard recently: “Women are expected to work as if they don’t have kids and raise their kids as if they don’t work”. While sadly this is the perception in our society, it’s not realistic. First off, there’s ALWAYS “mom guilt”. I should be at their class field trip instead of this meeting. I missed them taking their first steps because I was on a conference call. The examples can go on and on but you get the point. We wan ..read more
