Where O' Where does Niagara store its files not a sing along

Yes, I don know some things about Niagara and its file structures. What I am at a lost with is that we are getting files placed on user profiles which have been really using lots of memory. We installed the N4 4.10 on lets say F drive, yet users are getting files placed in their windows server profile on C:\. Is there a way to ensure files stay on the F drive? I have noticed that the main issue is on provisioningserver folder. Hopefully I am a little clear on this query. Please feel free ask if not. Any feedback is welcome ..read more

Spec Sheet/Product Manual Resources

Decided to start this thread as I have been in the process of aggregating spec sheets to present to a food marketplace customer; the objective is to compile all of the details regarding the current equipment in operation at their store. However, many of these units have long since been discontinued and the information surrounding the manufacturer and products themselves have been incredibly difficult to obtain via searching on the general Internet. Are there archival resources online that technicians utilize that I am unaware of? Or is the only option to continue digging through dead webpages ..read more

Trane Air Pump Compressor failing

My 11 year old Trane Compressor has started making like a metal on metal noise when it starts up -- very loud sounding like it is scraping on a rock. Once it gets going it sounds fine. I had HVAC out and they said all I could do is replace my compressor or my condensor. What is the difference? They quoted 3K for condensor 6K for compressor. Should I get a second opinion? I actually took them to task for seeming not to examine the compressor at all... but they said they did, they just can't crack it open. They said they checked everything they could. But I don't really understand that becau ..read more

It's been a few years since I have been on this board, as I haven't needed to replace an HVAC system since then. However, I have replaced 7 complete systems in the last 10 or so years. I have a two story single family attached home (duplex) that I started renting last year. It was built in 2006 and has two Trane systems original to the house. The AC's use R-22 refrigerant. My tenant called yesterday to tell me the upstairs unit wasn't cooling. (Both furnaces and coils are in the attic.) I have an HVAC company that services my systems twice a year. The tech told me today that the upstairs unit ..read more

Do you have one or two favorite brands?

There is a good chance I'll have to replace a Carrier (I think it's a 5-ton gas-pack) after a mere 8 years or so, due to a coil leak. This is in Phoenix, so a/c is a life-and-death issue. Carrier's customer service has been so awful that I have no reason to continue with them (unless they suddenly give me a freebie). I'm still trying to find a new local installer-repairer, but although the guy I met likes American Standard, he did his estimate on a Goodman. I'm looking for something very basic, nothing fancy. Do you have any favorites, either for less expensive, more reliable with fewer repa ..read more

What do I actually need for a new HVAC system?

Looking at getting a new heat pump for our 2041 sq foot single story home in Tampa, FL and I’m suffering from analysis paralysis. Current unit is a 4 ton unit. House was built in 2002 and has standard insulation, single pane windows which I plan to tint, and vaulted ceilings that go up to about 15 feet and start at about 8 feet. So far I’ve received two quotes of about similar price for a 15.2 SEER2 single stage unit with UV light and whole home air filter. Air handler is in the garage. 1) is there any benefit to the UV light and air filter that regular maintenance won’t solve? Can I add the ..read more

We had a new HVAC installed last year. A company is coming for an “AC tune up” tomorrow. My husband just mentioned last year adding a gallon of water to the outdoor unit so they’ll probably do that again this year. He said there’s a tube on the side that goes into a tank. Can anyone explain this to me ..read more
