The Wizards play the second game of a 5 game home stand tonight against the East’s top team, Miami, still without Bradley Beal who is out with a wrist injury. Daniel Gafford is also out tonight in the health & safety protocols. Ahead of the trade deadline where the organization seems primed for activity, the Wizards look to figure out which pieces are part of the rebuild and which are assets for use in the rebuild. Expect to continue to see lineup tinkering from Coach Wes Unseld ..read more

John Wall’s illustrious Wizards career didn’t exactly have a storybook finish. Prior to its Dec. 28, 2018, meeting with the Chicago Bulls, Washington’s all-time assists leader was ruled out with a left heel injury. He had just dropped 21 points in the latest edition — a 105-96 loss at Detroit — of a four-game skid. And that was it. The popular Wizard was sidelined for the rest of the 2018-19 season after undergoing debridement and repair of a Haglund’s deformity and a chronic Achilles tendon injury in his left heel, the team said. As his injury lingered for months, the star point guard misse ..read more

The Washington Wizards picked up some much-needed depth for their frontcourt Friday, signing center Alex Len to a one-year deal. The 7-foot Ukrainian was recently waived by the Toronto Raptors and signed to a minimum deal, allowing him to continue to be paid on the $2.3 million contract he had with Toronto, per NBC Sports Washington. With original starting center Thomas Bryant sidelined for the rest of the season, Len will join Robin Lopez and Moritz Wagner as Scott Brooks’ choices down low. “Without saying names, we need bodies. Let’s face it. We need bodies,” Brooks said. “It’s hard to pr ..read more

Wizards’ center was averaging a career-high 15.9 points per game entering Saturday. After Rui Hachimura drove toward the bucket and missed a contested lay-up during the first two minutes of last night’s 128-124 loss to Miami, Thomas Bryant leaped into the air to grab the rebound. The 6-foot-10 center turned his ankle and fell to the floor, writhing in pain and clutching his left knee. Today, the Wizards announced that the 23-year-old suffered a partially torn ACL to that knee, along with a sprained left ankle. He now faces a nine- to 12-month recovery, curtailing his season after 10 games. B ..read more

Goran Dragić launched a 3-pointer off a bounce from Kelly Olynyk during the latter half of the third quarter. The veteran left handed guard held his shooting arm up in the air as he watched his sixth straight shot — all of which coming from downtown — fall to give his team a 14-point advantage. This bucket continued a 9-0 run for the Miami Heat, whose strong second half powered them past the struggling Wizards, 128-124. The Wizards converted 44 of 99 shots tonight and dropped a season-high 44 points in the first quarter. But the Heat were in control for the entire second half, holding Washin ..read more

Wizards’ shooting guard tied Gilbert Arenas’ franchise record with a 60-point night in Wednesday’s loss. Bradley Beal posted a team-high 27 points in Washington’s 123-122 upset of the Brooklyn Nets on Jan. 3. That was his lowest point total of the season. Once the third quarter of Wednesday’s game in Philadelphia came to a close, the former Florida Gator was still leading the Wizards in scoring. Only with exactly 30 more points than his total from the previous outing. Beal is now averaging an NBA-best 34.3 points per game — nearly five points above current runners-up Stephen Curry and James Ha ..read more

Down by one with 28.2 seconds left, Bradley Beal missed a long two-pointer. But after Thomas Bryant secured the offensive rebound, the Wizards worked the ball back to their center, who slammed in a go-ahead dunk. The Nets drove down the court with 11 seconds left after electing not to advance the ball. Kyrie Irving tried a 3-pointer and couldn’t hit. Kevin Durant followed it up with an unsuccessful 12-foot pull up jumper. Bryant grabbed the rebound and heaved the ball into the air in celebration as the final buzzer sounded. With two-and-a-half minutes left in regulation, Markelle Fultz drove toward the basket while being guarded closely by Thomas Bryant. As the Wizards’ center elevated his hand, Fultz brought the ball down to his waist in mid-air and banked in a reverse lay-up. This play by the Upper Marlboro, Maryland, native and DeMatha Catholic alumnus gave the Orlando Magic a three-possession lead late, propelling them to a 130-120 victory over the Wizards tonight. Just like Wednesday evening in Philadelphia, this game was ultimately decided in its final quarter. And also, just like in the season opener, Ru ..read more
