Hi PSers! Call me slow but I had no idea there was a "pearl" forum and I'm so new to this beautiful world of jewelry without diamonds. Can you please point me in the right direction with these basic inquiries. Thanks in advance! 1) So I was trying to do my own research as it seems like Takahashi is a good place to shop? I was trying to do some browsing and I'm struggling with the website. Even though I pick English, not all of the website reverts to something I can figure out how to... Read more ..read more

I was very pleased with the purchase of the beautiful natural white Akoya necklace from Takahashi last summer. So Next stop of Admiration was all the beautiful Tahitian pearls! I was looking for round multicoloured strand quite for a while - until Tahakashi posted this beauty. I am very pleased with all the pastel colors, however will probably change in future for more graduated look and exchange couple of light pearls for vivid peacock. Those are really fascinating to look at! First is... Read more ..read more

After lurking in this Pearls subforum for a few years, I’ve finally gotten round to buying my first “real” pearls! I went to the Hongqiao Pearl Market in Beijing, fully expecting to pick up a strand of chunky white Edisons, but walked out with baroque peacock Tahitians. Needless to say, I didn’t really *get* pearls until I saw the good stuff in person, especially Tahitians. First though, I wanted to provide a short review of Hongqiao Pearl Market in Beijing - and sorry, even though I was... Read more ..read more

EBay lies about pearls...how do these sketchy vendors get away with it?

I recently thought about selling a tahitian necklace and went to eBay to evaluate what they are selling for. Oh. My. Word. We have "Tahitian" dyed potato pearls more often than not. Or "Tahitian" shell pearls. There were freshwater Southsea (again, egg shaped freshwater) and just endless quackery and muckery. With eBay's "concern" for authenticity, and the relative ease at shutting some of these auctions off...why don't they do so? /endrant ..read more

Trying to choose between a few options here. I could buy the larger one + 1 smaller pearl, or 3 smaller pearls. which would you choose? Larger one: Smaller colorful ones: Smaller light colored ones: Ooooor I could completely throw a curve ball and get a small "daily" strand that's been haunting me for a while: 2024.02.28 #436129 on Vimeo ..read more

Hello Pearl Experts! I am awaiting new VCA sweet studs in WMOP. After staring at millions of necks and photos after the past several weeks I have decided I would like a pearl station/tin cup necklace to wear with it. I don't like pendants and I don't want the matching motif necklace. I apologize for my ignorance but what kind of pearls should I be looking at? Akoya? WSS? Freshwater? I have a WF ACA by the yard I have worn for years and love, each station (with bezel) measures... Read more ..read more

My daughter graduated from college in December. She fell in love with a multi colored strand of tin cup pearls while we were vacationing in Hawaii last year. I wanted to do some research and purchase a good necklace but don't want to break the bank. I ordered a necklace from the Pearl Source but it only had 7 pearls on it and she wanted one with 9. I found one on American Pearl but after reading here, I think I would regret that decision. The one she saw was from Na Hoku and I have also... Read more ..read more

Hello lovely People of the Pearl. My sweet husband, knowing I've yearned all my life (and I'm 69) for a truly fine Akoya strand necklace, wants to get me one for our upcoming tenth anniversary(love CAN happen again at our age, yay). Our budget is $10,000 USD, although being on a fixed income, we'd like to stay well under that if possible. I've read and learned so much here. If y'all can help me by 1. recommending some vendors with good communication skills and return policies, and... Read more ..read more
