Growing up, discussions about sex were a taboo. Actually, the whole idea of sex felt like an abominable sin. The act of getting undressed, exchanging saliva, was just nauseating. And so when I met THE person, whom I knew beyond reasonable doubt had SEX, the drama still lingers on my brain. I remember it was my first year in high school. Like any other school, from time to time, students would be sent home to collect school fee arrears. So drama unfolded after students started coming back from home. There was this girl, I will call her Agnes. Agnes while at home, got intimate with the boyfriend ..read more

Picture this scenario, you go to the grocery store, one that you always buy from, but you are denied entry because you are not fully vaccinated from COVID-19. And it’s not because you refused to get vaccinated but the vaccines are not available! Just how would that feel? This is a likely scenario bound to face low - middle income countries if not urgently addressed. Remind them even if they know: Early cancer screening can save lives

Occasional cancer screening is usually recommended especially for cancer risk persons. This is because detecting symptomatic cells as early as possible, is crucial in providing the best chance for successful treatment for cancer patients. It’s important to treat this statement like your life depends on it. I speak strongly because the cost of taking for granted this information is very expensive. Currently my mum is undergoing treatment for stage four cancer, and how I wish we would have done something about it when she first talked of a plump on her breast 6yrs ago. At the time, she talked a ..read more

I gave birth to my beautiful baby girl sometime in December 2019. I named her Kairos which is a Greek term for God’s opportune time, because we didn’t expect her to come too soon. Personally, at the time of conception, I was getting ready to go back to work after two years of being a stay-at-home mum raising my first-born daughter. Already my finances were strained, and the arrival of another blessing, to me at the time, meant that times are going to be more difficult. The father worked in another town, and as we were making our birth plan I was the custodian for the hospital bill just in cas ..read more

Start-Up blog 1st Anniversary:
The Start-Up

When I made the decision to start a blog last year, it was a decision whose time had come. Initially I had began by writing down about my personal life experiences but I felt they were too intimate to meet the public eye. I abandoned the idea and I decided to take up an initiative that would not just provide entertainment but also positively impact on another person. With this vision in mind, I settled for the youth because there is always something new, fancy and innovative that they bring forth to solve our everyday challenges. I have worked with the youth before, and given that I fall unde ..read more

I miss my Nigerian neighbors

When we moved to our current apartments, we found ourselves in what Kenyans popularly refer to ‘kwa ploti’ situation. (Slang to refer to a group of people/families living closely together in rentals and share a number of services provided by the landlord). Thing is there were 8 self-contained houses in a linear arrangement and for some reason, I don’t know if I should blame it on the building materials but the houses had privacy issues. When your neighbors are having conversations, you could hear them only you could not make out all the words that they were saying. So we found ourselves livin ..read more

Do you remember, Babu Wa Loliondo, the infamous Tanzanian traditional herbalist, who minted millions of shillings from people alluding to have found a special medicinal herbal drink that could cure a host of chronic diseases including HIV/AIDS? Turns out it was all a hoax! But, when people are desperate to find a solution to their health problem, they can be lured into anything. For now, the virus can only be managed through lifelong antiretroviral therapy (ART), however the burden of the pill, high cost of treatment, stigma, proves heavy leading many to their early graves. It is for these re ..read more
